The beer, wine, and spirits thread

What are we drinking tonight lads?

It’s been 6 weeks since I’ve had any booze but I have a fridge full of goat Vermont beer, so, lezzgo.

Going to start with a Heady Topper.

Going left to right. Though depending on how it goes, I may jump to the So Happens It’s Tuesday at any point.

So far I have had Macallen 12 double cask, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Heavily Peated, George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and Auchentoshen 12. Not sure what’s next.

Now drinking Evan Williams single barrel

I started following modern times on instagram so I could buy their IPAs straight from the brewery when they were released and my first one was this guy. $23 for a 4 pack is pretty steep but its worth it.

Not a huge cabernet sauvignon fan, but pretty excited about these EMH Black Cat Napa cabs I just received directly from the winery today. 2 bottles each of 2011 through 2018 with a 3rd bottle of the 2011 and 2018.

Most are going to sleep for at least another 5 years, but I’ll probably drink a couple of bottles of the 2011 soon.

I don’t always remember the beer names, but I didn’t like the stuff I tasted from Fort Point. Huge fan of Modern Times.

We think alike, not quite as aged as yours but had been looking forward to trying this for a few years and popped it open Thurs. Did not disappoint.

I’d had 1-2 beers each night since Tuesday, but tonight was the first night I actually felt like it was 100% in the bag for Biden. So first, one of my favorite beers of all time:

This is about 7-8 years old at this point, and probably on a downward slope, but still tasted pretty great. Kind of a heavier, more alcoholic version of standard Tilquin Gueuze. I’d be delighted to have a dozen more bottles of this.

Then a double IPA that I think people have been talking about in here:

It’s fine? tasty? But doesn’t seem like something I’d race to the beer store to stand in line for. Definitely doesn’t compare to something like Dreadnaught or Permanent Funeral from 3 Floyds. I’m a little confused by all the love I’ve seen for this beer.

I had planned for additional beers, but ended up just drinking some packaged Costco/Kirkland margaritas. And I’ve got to say, Kirkland margaritas absolutely fucking rock.

I am currently drinking Ardbeg Uigeadail, the most expensive bottle of Scotch I’ve ever bought, at around $80.

54.2% ABV, no age statement. Very smoky. The warmth lingers in a way that no other Scotch makes me feel.

Where are you from?

Did you go to Vermont recently or do they sell that where you are?

I live in Boston. ~3 weeks ago, the wife, beagle, and I went to Stowe for a few nights. We hiked a bunch and swung through Alchemist on our way home.

Did you ever visit their old brewpub before the hurricane wiped it out? I only got to go there 2 or 3 times after skiing at Sugarbush, but it was awesome. He used to make a lot more different beers, including an amazing American sour cherry and the best Saison I ever had - I think it was called Farmer’s Daughter.

Celebrating the vaccine news and our last days of freedom with a few choice selections from our cellar. The first one is a village level white Burgundy (Chardonnay) estate bottled from a great little vineyard. The second a Premier Cru red Burgundy (Pinot Noir), also from a single vineyard and estate bottled.

And good recs for a peaty sub $100 single malt? Is lagavulin 16 the gold standard at that price point?

I like Ardbeg Uigeadail. I’ve generally been pleased with anything by Ardbeg or Laphroig.

Thanks. I need something to put on my Xmas list. I’ve already had plenty of Lag 16 so I’ll try the Uigeadail.

laphroig is a peaty scotch that a lot of people like and is quite a bit cheaper than lagavulin. Not a huge fan of that style though, so my opinion isn’t worth too much.
