I love being mostly ignorant of Czechia’s government. Their leader is a Czech version of Donald Trump if you can imagine such a thing.
The irony of the guy leading the far-right Czech nationalist, anti-immigration movement being an immigrant himself is laughable. Could somebody be any more self-hating? I’m so glad that his party is losing power.
Meanwhile, the Czech Pirate Party is gaining power. By U.S. standards, they’re far-left. They’ll likely be the second most powerful party in the legislature in a couple of years. Unfortunately, Czechia’s version of the Five Star Movement, ANO, has a near stranglehold on the government

Definitely have an open mind, but I think rent control is bad for all the obvious Econ 101 reasons. It’s a complex problem with all kinds of ugly racial undertones, but zoning, man. Let developers build more and every project will stop being at the top of the market.

AirBnB has absolutely fucked housing in Prague. The instant people saw the profits that could come and how cheap the housing was 10-15 years ago, landlords went batshit purchasing apartments. Now there’s like one person owning a ton of flats and only rents them short-term through AirBnB. It’s made finding reasonably priced, long-term accommodation extremely difficult to find.

This is where I’m at too. It’s a tough one. I think a good compromise is having a set amount of rent control apartments in a market.
Property is theft. Need more squatting.

Somehow the light bulb never goes off for the entitled pieces of shit who nod along that the people they don’t pay attention to who serve their food and wash their shit and drive their Ubers and watch their kids have to survive on like 20% of that.

Whoa, careful with the generalizations there pal, I’m sure there are lots of perfectly nice people making gobs of money complaining about only having $1500 left to spend after totally necessary expenses like 3 weeks of vacation annually.
A guy I did some work for was building a multimillion dollar house, maybe like $8M?, and he had trouble coming up with $12k (and I believe him). It’s pretty crazy how people with so much money still leave themselves in a position where they stress over it. He could have built a $3M house and eliminate all that stress.
