Yeah casino planet and the Rose character are terrible. Would have been so much better just remove those two.
The conventional wisdom, which I agree with, is that the new trilogy is like the bizarro version of the prequels. 1-3 were really ambitious and dense in terms of plot and world building, but the execution was utter garbage, even down to shockingly meh CGI in a lot of spots. The new trilogy is super slickly made and the acting is solid, but they totally punted on having a coherent or original plot. I gave TFA a pass because they did a decent job introducing all the new characters and it left me excited to see how theyād develop. Then TLJ came out and had no idea what to do with any of them, basically. Combine that with the kiddie humor like some of the casino stuff, and uber-cringe moments like superman Leia, and you have a movie thatās 100% un-rewatchable for me.
I couldnāt help myself and read some spoilers detailing the general plot of episode IX (stuff that leaked before the trailer, and then had most of its elements confirmed by it), and if it turns out to be accurate, this movie is gonna be a fucking mess. Been a fanboy my whole life, and itās sad to say Iām waiting for reviews before I decide to give Lucasfilm more of my money.
Agreed that R1 was really solid and very rewatchable. Solo, which I didnāt bother with until it hit Netflix, was surprisingly non-awful, but part of that is low expectations.
ETA: Just watched that reaction video and I need to watch R1 again now. āThat was wicked! I can die happy nowā lol.
I think the current trilogy is missing a lot of things. Most importantly the fact that the plot is mostly recycled garbage that also, somehow at the same time, doesnāt make sense. Well that and Adam Driver really has done a poor job pulling off being a scary bad guy.
R1 was awesome because while we sort of knew the plot it was something that meaningfully added to the existing story. Itās hard to see how this trilogy is doing that really.
Happy to read the R1 love. That clip is great
Think seeing these movies in the theater has a big impact on the experience. Iām sure this is the case for a lot of films but seems especially true for this franchise.
I saw Phantom Menace at the Ziegfeld and remember thinking that it was the most amazing movie evar, largely because the pod race on that screen was incredible.
I have to watch because a friend looks like Rey and I have to give her shit. Friendly shit obv.
I looked it up and ālolā pretty much covers it. Like you Iāll be waiting for reviews. Donāt care about the franchise anymore. TLJ really smashed the nail into that coffin.
I want the new movie to troll people who got triggered by TLJ.

The original start trilogy was such a big part of my childhood groups life that my friend and I ran a successful video production business because of it.
I lost all my adoration the first time I stepped into a casino and saw a Star Wars slot machine. That was the day the magic died.
Iām excited about this tease of a potential cameo.
Got a ticket for Friday, this is the only franchise I would do this for, except maybe Dune 2020 or 21, whenever Villeneuve finishes it, because that could be elite.
smrk if youāve never seen Jodorowskyās Dune then give it a spin because Iām like 96% sure thatās your kind of cinema
Heard of it, may have read an article about it, but havenāt seen the doc. Iām on team Lynch almost nailed it though. Ideally one of the streaming sites will buy the rights and do it from start to finish, I enjoyed the Syfy adaptations (It was probably still Sci-fi at the time). James McAvoy as Leto II was great. Spoiler I guess:
I have tickets for Thursday evening!
I have a friend who is at the premiere as we speak. He works for Disney and goes to every Star Wars and marvel premiere.
I am reconsidering our friendship.
I loved The Old Republic on PC. Never played the sequel or the MMO.
Star Wars Galaxies wasā¦somethingā¦back in the day
I donāt really want to go see it but I probably will because I derive about 99% of my SW pleasure now from watching the movie and then reading the inevitable evisceration online. Itās like I donāt really anticipate liking the movie but I enjoy the rage and fury from the fandom. I guess that means Iāve joined the dark side? Or Iām just an asshole? Either way Iām fine with it.
