Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker

Anyone still care about this or has the franchise jumped shark?

On a related note, Binge Mode has started podcasts that goes through the entire series. Here’s a piece from Mallory and Chris Ryan discussing the trailer.

Looking forward to it, while still thinking that movies 7 & 8 were much worse than The Phantom Menance. This franchise is Louis Cyphre and I’m Johnny Favorite.

I love the SW movies. I don’t get caught up in the fanboy crap about which movies suck, etc. It’s entertainment. And Jar Jar was a Sith but Lucas was a pussy.

This. I wish people could just enjoy being entertained.

Also, Force Awakens was fantastic. Last Jedi was fine, though honestly, I don’t remember a lot of it, so that must mean it ranks fairly low on the list. Part of my lack of memory compared to Awakens is probably because I haven’t caught Last Jedi on TV, whereas I’ve seen a lot of Awakens.

I will say that when I showed my kids the series, I enjoyed the prequels a lot more than I did when they originally were in theaters. Watching with kids makes these kinds of movies more fun. They don’t nit-pick. They just dive into the fantasy.

I was entertained by the Last Jedi when I watched it, mostly, but the stupidity of the plot and no discernible character progression (or believable re: Luke becoming a wimp over emo ren) make it the second worst movie in the franchise.

The Force Awakens was just a straight up crime. They had the chance to do all kinds of creative things but they chose to bring back the Nazis except now they are called the whatever? Oh, and they have another death star except it is bigger. ANOTHER DEATH STAR, a third one, what a joke.

Nah I’m happy and looking forward to it. I’ll prob see it within the first week of its release.

I enjoyed the last two major movies in the theater, but on rewatch, they don’t hold up. Try it if you don’t believe me.

On the contrary, Rogue one has yielded multiple viewings from me and I still enjoy it. Something is off about this trilogy and I can’t quite place my finger on it. I am speaking as a major fanboi too.

Rogue One infinitely better than 7 & 8, easily better than Return of the Jedi, 3rd best SW movie I guess that makes it. Even that young Solo movie was much better than 7 & 8, probably better than 1 & 2.

What’s off is that they realized they can still make 5-10 billion dollars without generating one new creative idea for the franchise. Oh, the girl is probably the most bad ass force user now, wow ingenious. Say what one will for 1-3, at least Lucas tried to tell a story.

Really liked Rogue One also. Not sure where it fits in the overall ranking put it’s pretty high up there for me

R1 was probably my favorite. The slow realization that everyone is gonna die was top notch. And that Vader scene at the end was amazing in the movie theater.

Impossible. People love whining too much.

I’ll see 9 in the theater but have extremely low expectations. I get that people just want light fun entertainment, but I don’t see why it’s not possible to do that AND have an actual plot.

Also not sure why it’s so necessary to cater to kids. When I was eight lightsabers, tie fighters, walkers, etc. was already enough to win me over I didn’t need to see other children doing children things. Practically all of the post-original movies have been ruined for basically no reason.

I loved TLJ, but I am much more looking forward to the new season of Star Wars Resistance, which I haven’t started on yet.

There’s an extended trailer(oh lol it’s in the OP) that looks back via montage at the preceding 8 films. Snapshots from the prequel trilogy are a pejorative on the whole franchise obvs.

With all due respect to my main man @smrk4

What C3PO says is poignant

I got goosebumps the moment I realized Rogue One was transitioning into A New Hope. What a fantastic ending.

I was basically like this woman inside:

We’re going to win this war, not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love!

I love the Last Jedi, because I can somehow tune out all the bad parts (what casino planet? Benicio del who?), and what’s left is really great imo.

The Force Awakens makes me feel the worst of any Star Wars movie. It’s too shameless. This new one seems headed down a similar path - trilogy ends with the good guys and the conflicted bad guy joining forces against the evil Emperor - but the voice with no visual on Palpatine in the trailer makes me think they’ll do something at least a little different there. One time Palpatine’s been in BB8 all along.
