You mean today’s Bulls?
No I mean the 1996 Bulls. They could have two Pippens or one Pippen and one Rodman.
I know, but he was that mainstream that Oprah is giving her basketball takes on it.
A followup question to her of who’s #2 would’ve been maybe Barkley, but probably silence. Rodman got a ton of pub, he was on MTV, he was in a wedding dress selling his book. I’m just saying he wasn’t unheralded at all, there was pushback among the basketball community (that I was privy to online at the time) thinking he was getting overpraised.
Weird argument SK.
It’s Pippen. You only want one Rodman because he’d be redundant otherwise. The comp to Dray and Klay again. You want more Klays.
I think that they were very complementary to the rest of the team, which was quite well constructed.
If I ran the Bulls at the time, I’d have ranked them as follows
- One Pippen and One Rodman
- Two Pippens
- Two Rodmans
I agree with this.
If the question was: They have one Pippen, one Rodman. Do you take another Pippen or Rodman?
You clone Pippen and run MJ, Pippen x2, Rodman.
That doesn’t mean that Pippen is more valuable than Rodman. The reason you duplicate him goes along with why he’s not that unique comparatively, but you only want one non-shooter on the court.
Right I’m making the argument that adding Rodman is clearly better than an additional Pippen. I’m keeping quiet (until now) that I actually think that adding Rodman is also better than adding an additional Jordan:
Jordan, Pippen, Rodman
is better than
Jordan, Pippen, Jordan
I agree that having two Rodmans on a team is useless. But only one guy can take a shot at a time. And the two Jordans would fucking hate each other, among other problems.
I deleted the post bc I understood your argument more clearly.
Returned bc it was quoted.
I also probably agree with your argument.
I’ve been about fit forever. If MJ was Pippen’s size I’d probably bite the bullet on two assholes being together tho.
Don’t forget, MJ loves Charles Oakley.
I’ll read your link later Keed, but if we’re going with provocative statements, I would argue that Rodman is practically unplayable in today’s NBA.
No no no.
Not with a (true) stretch 5.
Why couldn’t Rodman be paired with Myles Turner?
I don’t see how that gets us anywhere because if we start with
Jordan + Rodman
Then adding a Pippen is better than adding an extra Rodman.
Plus you could run him at 5 in all non-Embiid/Jokic matchups.
He can’t check Brow?
Any three NBA starters, Worm, and Steph Curry. Would they lose any games at all?
Yea but it seems like it’s fake nice. Like Magic could ask what your favorite hobby is. After you tell him poker, he’ll bullshit about his friend Doyle. MJ would straight up tell you Doyle is a pussy for not playing straight up for $200 million.
That’s fair, I’m mostly just making the argument for the diminishing marginal value of scorers on an NBA team. And that while it might be true that Rodman would be the second most valuable player on a team when the most valuable player is Scottie Pippen, that doesn’t make Scottie Pippen the second most valuable player on a team with Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman.
He can defend anyone, but players who are complete liability on offense make defending their team so much easier. He wasn’t even a good passer. He would have to develop a shot from some range to be able to stay on the court imo.
Little flatfooted Whiteside floater I’d guess.
I remember him scoring like 18 in SA on TNT when I was first getting into basketball and the announcers raving and giving him POTG.
He’d have to set picks nonstop, it might be a little baby Gobertish. I think he could kick the ball to the corners pretty easily when the D rotates at the rim fwiw.
I think his hands were ok enough, maybe I’m wrong tho.
