Lol Bristol folks always.

Tend to agree. That DeJong kick to the chest sticks out, but I don’t remember how dirty they were in the games leading upto the final.
Also they were involved in a super dirty game with Portugal in the WC prior.
For some reason, this last decade or so of Dutch teams has somehow created teams where the whole is somehow less than the sum of their parts.
Nevertheless, agree with Rivaldo’s historical point. There have been some Dutch teams that are really fun to watch.
When is Pardon the Interruption coming back? I miss Mike and Tony. They’re my friends.
Wondo was flagged for a woefully inaccurate offside so it wouldn’t have mattered.
Still pretty shocking that a guy who shouldn’t have been on the roster botching the one thing he does well on an open net. Almost as shocking as 12-year-old Julian Green with a perfect, likely accidental touch to get us back in the game and then that sick, sick free kick they ran at the end that had a real chance of scoring.
I also dispute the game against Germany. Yes, Frings handled the ball on the line and it would have been a penalty and a sending off. But that doesn’t mean US would have advanced. And yes, we did on some level outplay them in that game. That 2002 team was certainly our best ever. But Germany took an early 1-0 lead; the game surely looks different if that doesn’t happen.
That '02 team was the only team in my lifetime that was drawing live, albeit slim of course, to win the thing.
My DVR tells me 830PM on May 4th. Mike really misses you too

Pretty happy to see this trend broaden.
I am all about the destruction of the modern college minor league slavery system.
Not sure if you quoted this because I’ve posted about PTI before. But if I’ve told this story before my bad. My college roommate’s childhood home was neighbors with a higher up at ESPN. The PTI studio is in ABC’s DC office. He hooked us up with a filming of the show when we were down there. This was back in like 2013 when ATH was filmed in DC. So we sat on the ATH set and watched them do the PTI show. Unfortunately Wilbon was remote out of Chicago so it was just us with Tony and Tony Reali.
In the 2 hours I saw/met Reali you can just tell he’s a genuinely nice dude.
Tony on the other hand was his curmudgeon-self. We’re sitting in the green room and he walks in and asks who we know to be here. My buddy tells him and Tony’s response was “oh whatever, I don’t know him”. He asks one of the producers if he should know the contact and the producer sheepishly was like “uh yeah, he’s your boss’s boss”.
I was pretty impressed as they did every scene in one take and also at how quickly they turned over production. The show airs at 530est and it got done filming around 510ish.
lol I always thought it was live
They film PTI for 23 hours and 40 minutes?
I guess I could have been more clear- filming for the episode wrapped around 510pm eastern. It aired 530pm eastern. They started filming around 4/415ish pm. So like an hour to shoot.
Reali seems like an all time great guy. Completely on the ball about seemingly everything, self-aware, and woke in the best possible sense. He should run for president some day.
I miss his jokes and references.
Apparently when he was on GMA he had all the guests pantomime eating something. He gave Tony Bourdain ortolan - that little crunchy bird where you pull the towel over your head to hide your shame from God (they ate it in Succession) - and Bourdain loved it. I wish I could find a clip of that somewhere.
I’ve always been a big fan of Tony Reali. Tony Kornheiser can eat shit. He comments about the NBA when he goes to sleep at like 830PM every night and doesn’t really follow it. He’s like an unbelievably shitty tenured professor who can’t get fired.
Pretty sure Kornheiser only watches golf
Kornheiser’s radio show used to be great. I’d listen to him and then Dan and Dibbs.
LeBatard used TK a lot as inspiration. TK and Wilbon both suck, but suck in a way you like. I loved PTI the most when Simmons or Dan would be on there with Tony. BAM!
Lebatard’s show was so good when he was local in Miami. I guess technically he still is and he still does a local hour once his three national hours for ESPN are up but it was better imo before he went national and it was basically him and Stugotz.
Freddie Coleman is the only radio personality I can listen to for more than a half hour.
lol Mr Fill In.
Freddy’s voice reminds me of eating Taco Bell in my car late at night.
@anon92450360 I did get tired of Hochman, but calling other stations as Hackman was pretty good.
Like everyone laughs at the US soccer but we usually always over achieve. 2002 would have been in the fucking semi finals if Germany didn’t blatantly cheat and get away with it are you kidding me? 2006 never happened. 2010 Ghana got a lucky goal in ET to advance. 2014 Wondo missed the easiest goal in history against the Belgians to advance.
Even in 2006 we lost due to a bullshit penalty against Ghana and an unbelievably rigged game versus Italy. USA gets intentionally screwed every year by the World Cup refs. Payback for the bombs I guess.
I didn’t mind not making it in 2018 though because fuck Klinsman and fuck Trump.
“On some level” aka we dominated the hell out of nearly the entire match. That’s without the penalty that would have tied the game + man advantage.
