Like everyone laughs at the US soccer but we usually always over achieve. 2002 would have been in the fucking semi finals if Germany didn’t blatantly cheat and get away with it are you kidding me? 2006 never happened. 2010 Ghana got a lucky goal in ET to advance. 2014 Wondo missed the easiest goal in history against the Belgians to advance.
2002, we needed help to get out of the group stage, because we shat ourselves with it all to play for against an already-eliminated Polish side in the final group-play match, losing 3-1. Resultantly, we needed the already-through co-hosts South Korea to get a result versus Portugal, and they managed a come-from-behind draw, or Portugal would’ve been through.
Then we played the only team we would’ve had any confidence against, Mexico, and won.
The US still has zero technical ability, but for the odd player here and there, and that’s why we won’t do shit until that’s solved.
err I was wrong. South Korea beat Portugal 1-0. Had they tied, both Portugal and the US would’ve been tied on 4 points, but with the Portuguese advancing on goal-differential. I knew they were on the brink. Korea scored in the 70th minute to save us.
It’s the beautiful game. That should be the objective. Holland has never won a WC, and for clowns that value only rangz(American sports fools/fans), they’re diminished. They’ve fielded teams as attractive to watch as anyone ever.
Same with African football. But I’d rather watch total futbol or African flair any day of the week, than a craven, tactical culture like the Italians, though they’ve won 4 cups.
Just watched a documentary on the 2015 Leicester team that won the premiership. He was on that team and player of the year, before being bought by Man City
The USA just approaches tournament football well. Well organized, good defense and with their MLS schedule they’re in mid season shape rather than just at the end of a long season. Not focusing on technique rather than athleticism is bad, but not sure why there havent been a dozen American Alphonso Davies by now. That kid is probably worth £50 million now.
No surprise that tennis players, especially those at the top, are selfish douchebags. The costs of entry into the sport are way too high for anybody who isn’t middle class and getting to a professional level requires a huge financial commitment that people outside of the upper class can’t afford. Once you get to the pros, continuing to pay for top-quality coaches keeps tennis players outside of the top 200 from making a living. When you factor in transportation, food, and housing costs during tournaments, players who don’t qualify for every tournament likely find themselves living paycheck-to-paycheck.
Thiem, being from a developed country and a millionaire, either doesn’t have the ability to see that from his ivory tower or just doesn’t give a shit. Either way, fuck him.
