One of the few things I love about baseball is the history and the lore of the game. You have a sport that’s over two centuries old but also once in a while you get to see a guy smash right through ancient records --that’s an amazing thing to witness. This is also partially why I follow sumo wrestling.

As long as the Catholic Church doesn’t come back I’ll be ok. I feel like a lot of pre internet institutions aren’t going to survive.
PSU came back stronger for one reason: the NCAA had them pinned, then at the count of 1 NCAA let them up, walked out of the ring and forfeited the match.
They’ve been similarly useless wrt Baylor and Michigan State. Thank heavens for the courts or there’d have been no justice in any of those cases.
Simply put, the NCAA is the most corrupt, worthless governing body in all of sport, full stop. And I say that fully aware of the existence of FIFA.

A couple weeks ago when golfing I got paired up with a guy who told me he played football at PSU from ‘09-‘12. I felt like having a cordial round so didn’t bring up anything. I googled him afterwards and it turns out he was one of the players that defected after it all came out, so good on him.
I work with a lawyer who is a PSU grad and is otherwise thoughtful, liberal, extremely logical/smart. I told her about my round of golf and the first words out her mouth were “oh you mean you played golf with a traitor”. It’s seriously a fucking cult man.

People born in PA, especially if they have family members that are alums, grow up surrounded by Penn State everything in their lives.
It really is a religion. While that might have worn off for a bit after Paterno died, people forget pretty easily. Once the university moved on, so did the media and then we followed.
