seities Walrus Quickie reveal thread

why is it that the first walrus category in the history of this game where i recognize all but one of the songs is the “angry” category?

Perhaps that’s telling, lol

There were some really good entries in this category. Would have been hard to rank for me.

I’ve never heard those Toadie fellows. Not bad… :ok_hand:

How old are you? They were pretty famous, but also just hard to not know because of the unusual name.

Mid 30’s. I have heard of them, just never heard them. I think I just thought, “that’s a stupid name for a band…” and moved on to the next thing.

Yeah - I think maybe it feels more like a call to action, than just an angry song?

Yeah I had never heard of them. Likely they didn’t make much inroads in Australia. But From the sound in one track I could tell I wanted to learn more.

Yeah. I’m not complaining, but even with a 6 entry Walrus ranking is not easy! Finding lot’s of new stuff and reconnecting with stuff I had lost track of though, which is super awesome.

I have two reveals left! Next one should be on Monday - A song you like from a genre you don’t usually like.

The name comes from a Monty Python skit!

Correct, they were. I love that song so much, I won’t start quoting my favourite lines to protect innocent eyes / ears, but there’s loads of amazing ones. Not certain where that info Seities posted came from, but they’re from the late 90s not the late 70s.

Hey I apologise for this - When I googled them the only search result I found that seemed relevant was https://boomkat.com/products/rammle

Reading it again now I guess they dont really fit the genre listed there but I just couldnt find anything else about them.

I think the comments on that video might be the best source of info on the internet about them!

Edit - Thanks for that link, though, looks like the other Xerox Girls were worth hearing too.

As long as it’s ok with @cassette I might bring the reveal for this forward to tomorrow. I now have Monday evening plans which would make it hard for me to do a reveal that day so the plan would be to reveal Cat 5 tomorrow and then finish off with Cat 2 on Tuesday.

Sounds good to me :+1:

Ok, gonna get this running shortly. Taking a leaf from cassete’s book and going to page ya’ll: @cassette @RiskyFlush @pyatnitski @skydiver8 @JohnnyTruant @Rexx

This reveal will be for Category 5: A song you like from a genre you don’t usually like.

6 - 1 point - Rexx - Metallica - “Nothing else matters”.

Metallica’s Black album was my gateway album into Metal. Not long after listening to this album for the first time at my uncles place I purchased “And Justice for All”, and essentially became pretty well acquainted with their whole catalogue thanks to Napster (shhh don’t tell Lars).

Anyway regardless of my own affinity for the band I just can’t give this entry more than 1 point because of the “well known music” rule. Metallica are one of the most commercially successful bands of all time, and this particular song is their most listened to on Spotify. This score is to prevent all out Walrus anarchy in the future. But if it’s any consolation you sent me down a rabbit-hole of listening to all their old albums again.

Woah I hadn’t thought about Napster in a while. Any soulseek nerds here?

I used to be soulseek friends with Weasel Walter out of The Flying Luttenbachers. Doesn’t get better than that.

Again I had a hard time ranking this category. This probably isn’t particularly helpful for those who ended up in 4th and 5th, but originally I had those songs in 2nd and 3rd and they just got overtaken with more listens. The point is - I still enjoyed them.

In 5th place with two points

Cassette - FKA twigs - “Two Weeks”

This has a nice atmospheric thing going on and the singer can really hit the high notes. Compared to your other submissions (and the rankings in the Walrus you are running) I can also see how this is a perfect category fit. I do perhaps wish the tempo was a little faster here with this one as 4 minutes feels a little long. Nonetheless, I had never heard this song before and its a solid submission.

Shoot, I thought that was my best submission!

In 4th place with 3 points

JohnnyTruant - SHAED - Trampoline

This could very easily have been as high as 2nd place. Ranking is hard! There is some really cool production going on with this song and I enjoyed paying attention as it played out. It changes things up enough that I never get tired of re-listens, or haven’t yet. Probably putting this one into my playlist. Unlucky to be in 4th here.
