seities Walrus Quickie reveal thread

#4. An angry song. Maybe the singer screams a lot, or maybe the lyrics are about being angry at a person or situation. It’s up to you how you interpret it.

Another fun category. Thanks to all for the submissions. Every entry here hit the brief and again I appreciated something about each entry here.

On with the scoring.

I won’t get a chance to listen to these for a while but I like that Chris Isaak song! I should’ve cheated and submitted to this one.

Before I go any further - Great big blanket NSFW working for this category, and esp for this next song.

Pyatnitski - The Xerox Girls - Keep Your Mouth Shut

I tried to learn a bit more about this submission. They aren’t on Spotify and don’t have a Wiki page, but I found this:

The Xerox Girls formed in 1979 after witnessing other Steel City bands such as Cabaret Voltaire, They Must Be Russians and The Stunt Kites but to this day their tracks have been the preserve of obscure compilations and Sheffielders in the know.

For real Pyatnitski, I love how obscure some of your stuff is. I just had trouble getting into the song. I feel like there is some level of props due for…artistic expression? I just wouldn’t want to be putting this in any playlist.

RiskyFlush - Van Halen - Right Now

I really haven’t listened to a lot of Van Halen. But this was fun to check out as an example. The highlight for me is the guitar solo kicking in around 3:49. Having looked at the lyrics here, I think it meets the brief well enough. Again this just isn’t close enough to getting on any playlist for me.

The video seems angry about various things. But the song sounds very upbeat and inspiring. My feelings, they are in conflict. :man_shrugging:

Rexx, or as she now lists on her business cards “Winner of seities Walrus reveal Category 3” - The Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the U.K.

I’d heard a little Sex Pistols before via their lovely nursery rhyme Friggin’ in the Riggin’. I enjoyed this as I listened to it more. The top 3 just offered me something a bit more.

I’m having some trouble ranking the next two. Will be back shortly with the next listing and to receive Rexx’s abuse.

I can’t believe you ranked that 4th! I had high hopes for back to back wins. I’m starting to think you’re pro-establishment. The next 3 better be fucking good Seities

yeesh, I was pretty close to choosing this song because my actual submission was one I used in a previous walrus…now I’m glad I said fuck it and went with my gut

Ok, I’ve decided.

SkyDiver8 - Toad the Wet Sprocket - Hold Her Down

Straight away it’s feelin catchy. I liked the song, and it may well end up on a playlist of mine. Once again you’ve introduced me to something new (like BT) and I am going to need to dig into more of their stuff to see if it might end up in my regular rotation. And, despite the guitar feelin upbeat and fun, this is most definitely an angry song.

Toad is one of the most underappreciated bands of the 90s. (they are also one of the other acts I’ve paid to see more than once…lol) They had the misfortune of being active at the same time as (and thus overshadowed by) the mega bands of the grunge era.

They are my coworkers favorite band ever

Cassette - Anti-Flag - Die for the Government

Youtube quality is not so good on this one, so spotify link as well

This one started out in the bottom two and bubbled up and up and up over the space of the last 3 days to second place. Pure punk stuff right here and the chorus gets stuck in my head. Something about the pure simplicity of the chorus is appealing too. “This is a thing and its shit”. Congrats on your first podium sir, well deserved.

@pyatnitski - Xerox Girls are awesome

Damn - I’d never heard of them. I’m going to share this irl.

Johnny Truant - Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized

That youtube quality is really poor, check out this spotify link if you can:

I mean this just perfectly encapsulates the category for me. And if you don’t like it then I’m not crazy, you’re the one that’s crazy.

This was in first place from the moment I first went through the category and it never waivered from that position. Great submission, Mr Truant.
