seities Walrus Quickie reveal thread

I like the smaller field. Only have to dodge 3 bullets to make the podium!

Podium time! This was really difficult because I’d be totally happy putting any of the following entries in first.

And dodge 3 you did…

In 3rd place, with 4 points: SkyDiver8 - Chris Isaak - “Somebody’s Crying” (Live)

Thank-you for submitting this track! This was actually a pretty big hit in Australia and one of a few songs I tried (unsuccessfully) to learn on an acoustic guitar we had laying around. I’d somehow completely lost track of this, and now I can put it back into my Spotify list. Btw this is an exceptional live sound he gets. What a voice.

Like I said, any of these entries could have been first. The only way I could make picks at the time was “what do I want to listen to more of today”. I got some bad personal news on Tuesday when I did these rankings, and the sadness that comes with this song put it below the other few songs in that moment. But you reacquainted me with a song I really like that had fallen off my radar. tyty.

And that just leaves us Team Sardine to take up the next two spots!

In 2nd place, with 5 points: JohnnyTruant - CZARFACE/Ghostface Killah - “Czarrcade ’87”

Some sick flows in this song helped me got me nodding my head along in an awkward manner in my coworking space.

Bow down, puny human, you the least of my problems

We worldwide with it, you a regional squall

I just left a dame in Spain, yeah, I’m teachin’ abroad

While you be starin’ at your iPhone, policing a blog

Fun stuff and another one for my playlist. Thank-you Mr Truant.

There are very few acts I have paid money to see multiple times.

Chris Isaak leads with 4. He is an incredible showman. His concerts are just FUN (he’s funny, too), he still sounds amazing at 60-something, and the musicianship of his band is exceptional.

Forum friends, if you get a chance to see him, take it. He’s always touring. It’s worth it.

Rexx - Mental as Anything - “Too Many Times”

Some know her as “Rexx”. Others know her “The Queen of Team Sardine”. Others still know her as “Rexxie Wexxie Bexxie Boo”. Now she can also be known as “Winner of seties Walrus reveal Category 3”. I’ll let you decide what rolls off the tongue better.

Like I said in an earlier reveal, I had a kinda crappy day on Tuesday. The more I went through this entries, the further this bubbled up the list.

What is there left to do

But to drink and watch the view?

I think that it might rain this afternoon

It’s interesting since this track and “Somebody’s Crying” are ostensibly about the same topic, but under the circumstances this song elevated my mood the more I listened to it. It helped remind me that, as inspirational Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot said - ”um…well sometimes shit happens, doesn’t it?” - but you can still choose your approach to it.

Nice submission Rexx, and a worthy winner of this philosophical Walrus reveal.

indeed

Yeah that performance is just so tight. And he isn’t even doing a whole lot at the time, but I still find myself drawn in by little things like the way he moves his head. The way they seemed to up the tempo slightly for this live version works really well too. It’s great.

that was live in a studio, but here’s the same song live at a real concert.

His sound mixing people are on point.

Yar look…it could have serious consequences for my marriage if I keep watching live performances by this guy…

it’s the suits :money_mouth_face:

and the fact that the bottom vid was shot in 2019 and he can still hit those notes…lol

I honestly feel like I am totally addicted to these things. I don’t even contemplate offering to sit out if there are more people who want to play. I’m like “Screw you, you should have been quicker. Hehe.”

Reading this before listening to the song, I thought the reference was to The View and it was way too real.

Also: killer song. Worthy winner.

A+ Mr. Truant!

Yes. Isaak was a strange one. There was almost nothing to a lot of his songs but the production was so good it sounded fantastic, as if it had been written to be played on a high end audio system.

Asks for a short song, then complains it’s not long enough! I should have gone with my very first thought and goated / trolled with some choice early Napalm Death.

Hello thread. I know this is unplanned but I think I am going to launch into my next reveal shortly instead of doing it tomorrow. I need to not have Walrus on the mind this weekend so I can focus on some other life stuff. More shortly…
