A lot of outlets get their number from here:

Which I think is updated by Johns Hopkins.

Here is another counter. I haven’t figured out where they compile their data yet:

Girl here in her 20s was diagnosed positive and word is that she was bar hopping Monday and at a pub crawl Saturday supposedly while waiting for results from her test. Here we go.

Depends. There would be a certain tipping point where the uniqueness of COVID pulled ahead and far outdistanced China virus, but it is a marketing issue really.

Everyone I have talked to knows it is Corona or covid, I think the majority of people already know those names. COVID is better because it is not also the name of an alleged alcoholic beverage. It’s better than China, because China is both a country and fine dish ware.

Google could have named themselves Search Engine or Alta Vista (lol), but Google ended up being a much better name.

I can absolutely name counter examples as well. Apple is an obvious one. Regardless, it is dumb to call it the China Virus.

Sadly, I think we will be seeing many similar stories in the weeks and months to come.

It’s happening.

Being a somewhat aware, not idiotic, marginally intellectually curious adult in this country is to be condemned to hopelessly witnessing a never ending series of preventable catastrophes.

I was going to mention number 1. We really should be leaving masks for healthcare personnel.

This is going to be a nightmare. I hope they are doing this only for patients who have very little shot of making it anyway.

We need to pass a law making this illegal. Fuck these people. You couldn’t stay inside for two weeks? Fuck you, go to jail for a month.

Under existing Italian law, Metro reports, those who display symptoms but then refuse to self-isolate could be charged with causing injury — a charge that carries a sentence of six to 36 months in jail.

On the more severe end of the sentencing, those who display symptoms and refuse to self-isolate, and who then end up needlessly passing on the virus to an elderly or vulnerable person who then dies, could be charged with “intentional murder” — punishable by a 21-year sentence.

How to make your own facemasks

I work for the railway here in Canada. Deemed an essential service to keep supply chains going.

Everyone directly involved in the operation need to come to work. Last week they instituted a policy where 50% of ‘non-direct operations’ people would work remotely from home, the other 50% of those people would work from the office. Every week they would swap. (try following that logic). They’ve basically doubled down on that policy since.

This was a text from my GF’s sister who is also a doctor.

Punishment for breaking quarantine in the CR is a fine equivalent to $133,000 US. Knowingly spreading the virus (possibly by breaking quarantine) is punishable by up to 12 years in prison. Being outside without a mask or something covering your nose and mouth is punishable by a fine equivalent to $784.

That’s the shit you gotta have in the US.

Of course, she likely wasn’t under a government mandated quarantine like she should have been because the government is only making suggestions, not taking action to keep people quarantined.

There are so many GOP scumbags whose deaths I’m going to celebrate.

Natural causes of course. But I’m still gonna celebrate.

Once widespread testing becomes available, will those tests be able to distinguish between “have the virus” and “had the virus”? And how sure are we that people who recover have immunity?

Knowing I’d already had it would make a huge difference—the difference between “I ain’t leaving the house until there’s a vaccine” and “what can I do to help?”
