SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Cuomo says 50% of all businesses have to stay home. All the people that sit at their desk and do nothing get to go home. The workers that touch everything and share computers get to stay.

This Dexter reboot looks lit!

Wait is Dexter still on the air?

A tiny ray of hope

What if you moved all the at-risk people and their caregivers into “gated communities” for 18 months then just let this thing run it’s course? It would certainly keep the economy going.

Like if you want to keep working at the old folks home, you have to move in to the old folks home. Nobody else gets in w/o a month long onsite quarantine off in some quarantine trailer somewhere. Cargo is defumigated or let sit for the required amount of time or w/e.

We make new gated communities for younger people with comorbidties. Same rules. If you can work from home you can keep working. If not we’ll pay you a stipend. You can video chat with your friends and relatives.

It could be completely voluntary. If you want to live - go to the home for 18 months. You don’t have to get everyone. Just enough to keep the hospitals from overloading. I think once people start dying en masse and everyone knows someone they see clinging to life on a ventilator - you might get enough volunteers.

We’re going to have to start thinking outside the box on this one. As the economy tanks there’s going to be more and more pressure to let the 95% of the workforce who aren’t at risk go out and save it. Also once people start dying en masse, you’ll have a lot more motivation from the at-risk groups to accept some form of true isolation.

I’m never alone
I’m alone all the time
Are you at one
Or do you lie
We live in a wheel
Where everyone steals
But when we rise it’s like strawberry fields
If I treated you bad
You bruise my face
Couldn’t love you more
You got a beautiful taste

Don’t let the days go by
Could have been easier on you
I couldn’t change though I wanted to
Should I have been easier by three
Our old friend fear and you and me

Well that’s definitely the first time anyone has ever said that about my head. I have a large but mostly proportional noggin. I am, however, blessed with a pretty good head shape for shaving, I will say that.

I would look like Simon Bar Sinister if I shaved my head.

Some dudes at a merchant shipping forum were saying the USNS Comfort isn’t set up to do quarantine care, which the SecDef seemed to confirm. No ability to isolate anyone. The idea was for the ship to handle the routine hospital care.

Dutch secretary of health just collapsed during a debate about COVID-19. One of those things that would seem too on-the-nose for a movie.

I agree that it seemed like the Imperial study seems to have gone for the most pessimistic view. They didn’t make any allowance for new treatments or better suppression methods. However I’m glad it finally got the US and UK to take things seriously.

However the bad news is it’s not clear we will ever be testing widely in this country. And we’re also not telling people to wear masks. And our shut down is a lot less draconian than there’s - even there’s outside of Wuhan.

Their “back to work” is pretty much what we’re doing right now. No gatherings, restaurants or bars, work from home if you can. Except they also have pervasive testing.

Not speaking for Trolly but some of us work jobs that can’t be done from home…I have been isolating myself as much as possible in my office though, only going out onto the manufacturing floor when necessary. Wish I had my own bathroom though

We don’t have to move anyone. The Villages already exists.

Exactly. Just lock that shit down. No one gets in w/o quarantine.

I have a giant baby head. Most hats look like putting a thimble on your thumb.

What percentage of the Alberta population is Albama obese?

Talked to my Respiratory Therapists buddies yesterday. The USA companies and the government waited too long and cant buy more ventilators any time soon. Other countries have over 100K ventilators on order in front of us. The hospitals were told what we have is it for the crisis. Thats why the military announced their 2000 ventilators can be used by the civilian hospitals.

From a reputable Chiefsplanet poster

bill seems to have a problem with the parameters in the model being too negative

but one of the parameters in his response is ‘testing widely’ which is just about the opposite of what is happening in the United States
