I’m not a particularly emotional person but this really hit me. Can’t imagine the horrors the front line staff are facing.

Lava was the best for getting my hands clean back when I worked on the farm, and constantly had grease and other nasty shit on my hands. That and the stuff that came in the orange bottle and smelled kind of like citrus. Can’t remember the name
Gojo. Best soap in the world.
Fantastic - Portugal getting their priorities in order.
A good excuse to add a bit of much needed colour in this thread as well.
They don’t need to hide information, they just need to create a counter-narrative that is more emotionally appealing to get people to both sides it and ignore it. They already have playbook for this! By the time this is all over, there will be a large number of deaths and catastrophic economic damage. But it’s the people left that will vote, and the vast majority of them will mostly remember being frustrated by being locked down and having their employment and/or retirement plans disrupted. Trump is going to come out swinging with “all the deep state liberals overstated the risk and wrecked the economy and overreacted by making you stay at home all summer and I was the one that tried to stop them!” And lots of people that jump right on that, even thought it’s obviously stupid, because it’ll make them feel good.
Can anyone ITT answer some basic questions questions about vaccines? Like why we have been able to develop a vaccine for the flu but not for HIV, and whether COVID is more similar to flu or HIV from a vaccine perspective?
There is a vaccine for HIV, COVID more like HIV (warning - i’m no doctor)
Do you have a link for that? - reuters article saying it’s temporary “until at least July 1” rather than permanent as I’d assumed.
There’s a vaccine for HIV? I don’t think so. What I’ve read said there is an experimental vaccine but nothing approved by the FDA.
PrEP isn’t a vaccine, there’s no HIV vaccine. Haven’t seen anyone knowledgeable-looking suggest a covid vaccine is unlikely to be possible.
It’s HIV drugs (not vaccine) being used to treat COVID in some countries.
Stem cell treatment would appear to be curing some of AIDS
My lazy recollection, and it could be wrong because I’m not going back to look, was that Keeeeed was in fact one of the people who was expressing concern back in January back when everyone was still laughing at me for raising the alarm that this was going to hit the US.
Again, and I don’t know why I need to keep repeating this, but my “broken arm = death scenario is what happens if we do nothing to mitigate, reopen the economy, and the health care system collapses. I’m not saying it is actually going to happen because we clearly are attempting mitigation.
Lol, if I’m being honest, 72 hours is probably my median too. But if it’s food and I’m hungry I’m not waiting.
There’s no way it runs this course. The worst case scenario is that you don’t get permanent complete immunity, not that each flu season there’s a 2 percent chance you’re dropping dead. If it ran this course it would be the first virus affecting humans to run that course in thousands of years of recorded history.
What you can do if more than half your population lives alone and people act responsibly:
Also, reinforcing the points made itt about cultural differences between countries with large differences in infection rates:
In contrast to the multi-generational homes in Mediterranean countries, more than half of Swedish households are made up of one person, which cuts the risk of the virus spreading within families.
What about malaria victims in Africa?
tumbleweed
Ok dude.
And your nuclear war scenario is…what? Still drawing live as we always have been?
