SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Can we please get through this one before we go jerking each other off?

I went to Trader Joe’s today about a half hour after open. Had to wait in line about 15 minutes. They’re only letting a few people in the store at a time so it was an uncrowded dream (unlike Friday which was a nightmare).

I was able to find everything I wanted including meat and bread. Is buying 4 carne asadas and 4 pollo asadas in a tube dickish? There were tons of pollos left but I took half the carnes. I live on that stuff. I grill it up and dip it in guac like chips.

Anyway people seem terrified to go into the Starbucks next to it but have no problem doing the drive through.

Oh yeah, if you want to know where all the TP is going - this is a Von’s employee at the end of his shift when it was long long gone off the shelves. I don’t begrudge him. I guess he gets to be a hero to his extended family. I figured that’s where all the TP and hand sanitizer has been going anyway.

I think this will happen. But if the warehouses run out of food it’s a different story.

Can’t imagine people will try to hoard what will be extremely rare Louis and Moet sanitizer from a once-in-a-century event.

One thing good that may come out of this is normal people will stop thinking it’s ok to never follow politics - like we just live in this protected bubble and nothing bad can ever really happen.

Then again those people are a lot more sane than me right now.

IT’S STILL WRONG MOTHERFUCKERS JS@#)$#$#$*)$

yeah… really good opportunity for a fitness plan

think I might get on my treadmill later

I’m dreaming of living in some wilderness adjacent area with a cabin, barrels of rice and flour, a field of potatoes, some fishing or something and no news/politics. Oh, and a lot of multi-vitamins!

Do you believe that cold water boils faster than hot water too?

I think hot water actually can freeze faster than cold though.

Wearing masks during flu season and allergy season has long been a thing here. During a typical non-corona winter I’d estimate that around half of commuters wear masks on trains, and maybe 30% of all people you see walking around town.

When I first came here I eschewed the practice, but I’ve since gotten fully on board. As a result I’ve gotten sick less and my pollen allergies have been less severe.

I personally don’t buy that masks are ineffective against the virus. I can’t help but believe that when both parties are wearing one, there is less chance of transmission than if neither party did.

Needless to day, right now just about everyone in Japan is wearing a mask, although they are in short supply right now.

I managed to secure some tobacco tonight, 10 packets :closed_lock_with_key: & it saves me some cash, costco run tomorrow with my brother

My Local BM store tonight was a riot, shelves in tesco are decimated but that’s usually the case at 10pm.

Quick family report.

All them are now taking it seriously, thinking of the vulnerable & are getting time off work, except for my 2 young cousin’s, 1s in printing so he should be all OK but the other & her boyfriend are on the front line, pharmaceutical and 1st aid, currently OK but feeling the pressure, as now there wedding might be cancelled in August.

I’m worried for my Uncle though as he installs all the fire alarms and sensors and they are always breaking in the old folks homes and hospitals. Don’t think he can get anytime off. :unamused: And has been in the same buildings as the infected.

Stay safe everyone… :v:

We could be drawing live to my dream apocalypse scenario:

Can’t imagine an N95 is something I’d seriously consider. If shit gets that real, I’m going straight to the hazmat bodysuit, preferrably one done by a good style house like Kenzo or Saint Laurent. Breitling Emergency for the wrist. I’ll probably die just as easily as everyone else, but at least I’ll look good doing it.

I lied about wearing an N95 but I’d rather get them from Maison Kitsuné than 3M.

Just got this email forwarded to me

Dear Chairs,

I ask that you disseminate this information as broadly as possible among your faculty actively involved with research. Please share as you see fit with graduate/undergraduate students and postdocs.

Following recommendation from the OVPR, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences should be ready for an imminent slow-down or even suspension of all research activity.

There’s no need for concern or panic. As a community, we are deciding to act proactively out of an abundance of caution so that we can be back on track to our regular research activities as soon as possible.

If we need to slow-down or suspend research, please follow these recommendations relevant to all departments in the college in order to help with your planning.

Followed by a bunch of specifics about what to do. Sounds like we’re talking weeks or months of no research. Huge deal.

The sardines are next.

We’ll take what we need and they can then join us, like The Great Khan.

More I think about it, it seems everyone having a month supply of the surgical style masks makes sense. It’s got to help. Anything that reduces Ro.

Def should be in the stockpile for the next time. That and keeping a 6 month supply of TP.

Saw that a grocery store chain around here (stop n shop) is doing the same thing. Obviously they can’t really enforce it but hopefully people aren’t total jerks about it and go when it’s for the old people.

Just cancel the damn thing. Who cares who has the authority. Cancel it and when someone sues tell them to fuck off.
