These forums are always the best source in a crisis - aggregator of aggregators.
I’ve been using the programming forum on 22 and here in a similar fashion for years. Much more slow-motion but similar concept. I consider it an ace in the hole to get good advice on almost any software-related subject.
This coronavirus thing is like Navy Seal training for public heath. Even if we go back to situation normal, I’m never touching a touchscreen at a grocery store or an ATM with my bare fingertips. I’m going to continue to be proactive about hand washing and sanitizing. This is shit we should have all been doing all the time but it took a zoonotic respiratory disease to wake us up.
Fuck. We’ve all known this was coming for weeks, but it’s still hard to read. They’re going to be treating COVID-19 patients with pain killers. In America. Like, today or tomorrow.
Yeah, as much as I’ve been expecting this, it’s still jarring to see that hospital memo about rationing care and even taking people off of ventilators if they don’t improve fast enough, whatever that means.
And our president is up there saying we don’t need 30,000 ventilators in NY while they are being pummeled and are days away from being over capacity and typing out a similar memo.
Maybe I’m late to the party on this, but as I just posted in the Trump thread, the governor of Kentucky is a Democrat. This seems particularly relevant at the moment as the junior senator from the state is battling COVID-19.
Amazing that the state that gave us a senate combo of TurtleRand and the jackass (Massive) who is blocking the House voice vote elected a Dem governor, but it’s true.
This is the same phenomenon by which Trump’s approval is going up right now. People need leaders in a time like this. As bad as Trump has been their natural inclination is still to rally around him, because the alternative is realizing that we’re all fucked. No one wants to believe that.
If Trump was remotely competent and not literally saying the exact worst things he could possibly be saying, over and over, he’d be at 90% approval right now.
It will wear off though, just like GWB’s approval bump did.
Just another WAAF anecdote: The large and supposedly competent government agency I work for has a cafeteria in one of its highest use buildings. A few staff tested positive. The response? Carryout only now. I guess people still have to eat but this plus restaurants in general still serving carryout seems unlikely to mitigate much risk if there is confirmed covid floating around the building. But also I assume that means people were still sitting down to eat there as of this week which is mindblowing. This is Northern Virginia, not one of those states that are still pretending this is just the flu.
I mean these are 90%+ Republicans. The TV’s are set to Fox News all day. But I would have expected a better response from someone higher up with some sense.
My university with one of the leading healthcare complexes in the world, and a very progressive workforce, basically waited until the last minute - and a week and a half after canceling classes - to give us the go head to all work from home. And they knew for that last week in the office that someone in our building (who eventually tested postitive) was getting tested for covid.
Yay bureaucracy. My boss’s boss - who works on campus a mile away and I’ve seen in our offices maybe 10 times in over a year - is emailing us twice a day now with tips and uplifting stupid shit. I think she knows she fucked up and is trying to work her way out of it.
No, this is clearly establishment dem’s fault, you naive summer child. If you don’t think Liz personally ordered your cafeteria to stay open you are so gullible. Open your eyes man!
