SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Louisiana is down to 12.8% positive, used to be around 40%. Testing definitely up.

Bill Gates drops 100 mil…How many days work is that for him.

Days? I’ll see myself out.

I wish CA would report hospitalization #s. They’ve had a bunch of testing pending for a while so I think some of those are coming home to roost on the same day. It’s really hard to say as they don’t update negative tests every day either. Come on CA get your act together. You’re supposed to be one of the good guys.

It’s interesting looking at the trends in different states and countries around the world, but it ultimately feels pretty meaningless.

Like, people are mocking USA #28 for being #1 in confirmed cases, but I see it as a good thing that at least # of tests performed are starting to ramp up (we can thank the individual states for that).

Here in Mexico there are only 475 confirmed cases, so applying the logic used by some in this thread we would say “wow! Incredible job for a country of 130 million”, but in reality they’ve done fuck all for testing and the corona response has been awful up until a couple days ago.

It’d be like looking at the biggest winners on a poker site where some/most aren’t even reporting all their losses.

I also think looking at “trends” in cases/deaths is also a fairly useless practice unless we know exactly how many tests are performed each day and even if we could know with any certainty that they were going down, this thing can easily return with a vengeance, and it just feels like giving a false sense of security and morons like Trump will use it as justification to put us back at risk far sooner than necessary. AFAICT, a majority of the countries where we think this is leveling off are simply testing less than before.

Missouri still running at 50% positive and lots and lots of unexplained viral pneumonia. Oops sorry they’re up to 65% positive now. GJGE

Even if that is true, and there’s a big if there, there are 327 million people in this country. 10s of millions of tests is like 5-10 percent of the population. And way more people than that are going to get it.

I read Singapore is currently doing a huge antibody test study to see who had it. Yet we don’t even hear about antibody tests here.

I worry about Mexico. A whole lot of the people live in cold dry air.

That would be us if our governor lost. Amazing the difference between a frustrating, yet centrist Dem and a complete fucking imbecile.

I’m not convinced really any of the “response” here by the feds is even real. How are hospital workers wearing trash bags and reusing disposable masks at the beginning of this crisis if we have delivered 497 biliion masks or whatever trump says. The google site was fake the wal mart testing was fake the hospital ships are basically fake.

There is no actual meaningful federal response. How in the world are we going to develop a functioning antibody test considering where we are at right now.

Worst of all is that Holy Week is a massive deal here and I don’t think enough people are taking this seriously enough and will still congregate in large #s. Shit will probably really hit the fan 2-3 weeks after that.

Could get bad in Guatemala too.

Probably no could about it. Most of Latin America will get crushed, save for the few countries that are already enforcing military-style lockdowns. Brazil has a worse Trump as president so I’m sure they’re screwed too.

Give you an idea on what deplorables are thinking right now. My mother copy/pasted this nonsense from some bullshit Facebook group:

So yeah, everything’s gonna be fun so says some chain status on Facebook that my mother thinks is authentic.

Facebook was the worst thing that ever happened to the world.

I’m not sure what I caught but I’ve been hacking up a lung since Sunday. No sore throat, extremely low fever for a couple of days and some fatigue.

My mom who is 61 and has HORRIBLE asthma and allergies and gets pneumonia almost every year is now home feeling extremely tired and having trouble breathing. Against the wishes of me and my sister she’s continued to work and meet face to face with clients.

So yeah hopefully this is just her normal breathing problems but this doesn’t seem good. Oh and my dad almost 70, has been smoking since 15 and has slight emphysema, so there’s that too.

Sorry to hear that FTB. Keep us updated. I hope it’s just something annoying.

This will end up being the most stark example of the power of good policy vs bad policy and the value of science in our lifetimes. Yet it won’t move the needle on either issue for the right.
