I know one hospital that already has a blanket DNR policy in place for Coronavirus. My wife’s hospital will no longer use ECMO for Coronavirus patients. My hospital will not use intermediate treatments between oxygen masks and intubation (non-invasive ventilators). I know several that are considering policies that will prohibit placing patients in prone position (the company that rents automatic prone beds won’t allow their equipment to be used on Coronavirus patients). It’s a different world in the hospitals now. Codes put a lot of caregivers at risk, so does proning.

It’s pretty obvious to me that not only are we picking a bad option right now are picking literally the worst of all the options. We are still going to face really bad economic turmoil for the foreseeable future AND have a massive loss of life. Our current strategy with this is to pretend we are doing something meaningful by “social distancing” but just about every person I know while bragging about this ir sharing pics of their kids social distancing on FB is cheating at it in some way.
And even if we weren’t grocery stores and the like are going to be massive infection fests. We still have a ton of people working around others, etc. Literally what we are doing might slow the spread some but not enough. As a result I firmly believe we are maybe 3 days away from Italy like death tolls that aren’t going to stop for months. In the end we will fare the worst bc we STILL have the worst policy on how to actually stop it in the developed world.

Haha true, also leon the video poker degen who posts trip reports in the LV forum on 2p2 is a libertarian/deplorable doctor but I’m not sure what he practices.
I’ve heard some gross comments from doctors about poor, uninsured people who “abuse” ERs too but in general I’m going to assume people working in those positions mean well. If you just wanted to get rich and be a doc you’d probably go into a specialty that is lower stress and has better hours
Cops in my area are going to start cracking down on groups playing basketball, things are getting pretty real. Pretty sure everyone in office is going to get voted out in a landslide.
More than one doctor on the bogleheads forum has spent the last 4 to 6 weeks basically calling this a hoax. I find many doctors I come across online tend towards being scumbags. (Of course, there are many that seem like good people.)
Thanks for any of these updates. This is such valuable information to get a clear picture of life on the front lines at the first place to be hit in the US.

Yep, this is going to be a slow moving train wreck as all these people who have no insurance because they got laid off get 30 thousand dollar bills for random health issues or issues around the corona virus
