I think I agree in that we’re never seeing the right wing fantasy of family units surviving nicely because of strong houses and guns, but plenty of places degenerate so pretty local gangs, essentially just those from the neighbourhood who had the guns, can control a few blocks or a small town. Syria a few years ago and Lybia more recently were like this in a lot of places. Then rural areas with transport links passing through probably will have roving armed gangs of young men who fell out with their local militia.

This can all even be when some sort of central authority still exists or slowly reconstitutes itself. When states get weak they tolerate a lot of local shit, they just give the local gang leader a title and let them do what they like.

The closest we can come that seems even remotely possible would be a wealth tax.

Thank you.

It will work out great for the GOP in the short term, because the hotspots in those states will be cities with the highest population densities which also happen to be left-leaning islands in those red seas…like in AL where most of the sick people are in Birmingham. There’s never been a time I wanted to gtfo of this country more than right now.

Lol, don’t worry, I’m not quite THAT foolish. This is just internal to our firm, so hopefully I can combat that much.

Putin dons protective gear for hospital visit

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin put on special protective gear as he visited coronavirus patients at a hospital in Moscow on Tuesday.

Mr Putin has so far declared the outbreak “under control” in Russia.

However, the official number of people infected in Russia rose to 658 on Wednesday - the largest one-day increase in cases so far.

The mayor of Moscow told him during his hospital visit that the number of cases in the Russian capital far exceeded the official figures.

“A serious situation is unfolding,” Sergei Sobyanin told the president.

I have some visibility into gas sales in New England, and a lot of gas stations are seeing 20-30% of their normal sales in gas, but relatively normal sales in diesel, which suggest people are doing a lot more sheltering in place, but the trucks are still delivering.

The Caesar trutherism is just too much. He was a fucking military dictator. Most importantly, the soldiers were not a huge percentage of the population, they were a distinct professional military class.

Also, Caesar certainly killed 100x-1000x as many innocent people as Sulla in Gaul. He’s a better idol than Mao, I guess, but you could do better.
