If they all get it a bunch of them are going to have a near death experience, and are going to be looking for someone to blame. Right about them it’s going to dawn on them that some people were happy to sacrifice their lives in service to younger generations. They are going to be 1000x more pissed off than they get about someone getting their order wrong at a restaurant or their cable breaking… and speaking as someone who has dealt with them a lot in customer service situations that’s the anger of a thousand suns.
Because you’re absolutely right. They don’t care about anyone or anything but themselves. And this is someone taking a shot at them personally. They aren’t going to forgive and they aren’t going to forget. And the ones who don’t have a near death experience are going to lose friends/family.
They will blame Democrats for letting the illegals in and sincerely believe it was a Soros driven conspiracy to kill GOP voters. I’m not even kidding.

My hospital doesn’t do ECMO, My wife has seen a few at her hospital. She hasn’t said anything about anyone coming off successfully. Oddly, we haven’t been able to successfully prone a covid patient, they desaturate as soon as we try. Probably just small sample size honestly, but it is a weird little blip. Prone position works great for most severe ARDS patients. I have noticed our vented patients tend to stay on the vents for a long time.
Once again, I’m not even sure they care about that. How many leopards eating faces safaris in Middle America do we need to see before we accept that?
They’ll be pissed, but it won’t be at Trump. Trump was just doing his best to help. Obviously.

I am for a full on federal lock-down, get some data, then reassess. I think if we did nothing things would be absolutely terrible and its a reality we aren’t going to accept without trying something.
That being said I think we need to try and be realistic with the worst case scenarios. It looks pretty likely 80% of young healthy people who get the virus never experience anything more than cold symptoms.
500k vs 160k is a big difference when analyzing how to move forward. The imperial college study also shows a pretty frightening reality of flattening the curve which is a very very long fight with this virus. An actual depression caused by 2 years of 20%+ unemployment has the potential to kill a lot of people too.
That is weird. It would seem physiologically unlikely for that to be a unique feature of COVID-19.
Yeah, it seems like the vented Italians that have recovered were on them for weeks.

Uncontrolled infection will cause a depression all by itself. It won’t become self limiting until we hit 10s of percent infected.
2% of the country sick at once with another 8% in quarantine. Drag out the tails of 2-14 days and you have somewhere around 1/6 of the country sick. Toss in people mourning a death in the family. Not hard to get a month period where 25% of the country is directly impacted.
When 10k/day are dying you will have a hard time dragging people out of their houses. The virus itself will put the fear of god in them.
At this point I’m resigned to 500k+ dead. I hope their sacrifice delivers us from Trump and hopefully a GOP senate. Otherwise heaven help us (coming from an atheist).
My plan is to stay alive and encourage my immediate family to try to do the same. We can recover financially. I’ve already lost a son in this life (car accident at 19) and have some perspective.

Here’s a fun thought experiment I’ve been pondering for a while. Especially interested in responses from our resident “cure maybe worse than the disease” posters of which there are a few.
If you could Thanos snap off X% and that percentage of the world population would die instantly but at the same time coronavirus would be immediately eradicated, so everyone can go to work tomorrow. Anyone who has it now and isn’t snapped is instantly cured.
Assume that the X% will be distributed by age and health status exactly as COVID-19 has been to date.
How low does X have to be before you will take the Thanos snap over what will happen if we just let this whole thing play out as it will?
