SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

What are your thoughts on Inslee’s stay-at-home order? I see news stories about Washington building field hospitals and getting ready for things to get bad but it seems like they have had spread for awhile now and it hasn’t really taken off.

Are you worried about your and other hospitals getting overrun or does it seem like things will be fine?

Thank you! I think its great to get insight from hospital workers right now.

A news release from Banner Health, based in Arizona, said the couple, both in their 60s, took an additive called chloroquine phosphate, used to clean fish tanks, to try to prevent infection with the coronavirus.

Within half an hour, both needed to seek emergency medical care. The man later died.

President Donald Trump touted the drug for its potential during a news conference last week; however, the Food and Drug Administration later said that it had not approved chloroquine for the coronavirus and that much more study was needed.

He should have been the first governor in the country to issue that order. Until we can say for sure the new daily cases going flat isn’t variance we should be locked down as much as possible.

Things in the hospital got pretty sideway for a while, and it is still more stressful than normal. I’m not really worried about getting overrun with patients. I’m just hoping that if it happens our MDs have the balls to pull the breathing tube from the rich 70yo to give to the 40yo who needs it. Beyond that, once the inn is full it’s full, nothing I can do about it.

Let’s let the Lt. Governor go work on the front lines helping the overloaded hospitals then, if he wants to sacrifice. That’s not what he’s going to do, though. He’s going to be somewhere safe because he’s probably fucking loaded and doesn’t have to actually put himself at risk.

Posting again because I’m bummed out and need to get it off my chest. Seems like:

  1. US Govt got the death projections 10 days ago, had an ‘oh crap moment’, and told everyone to stay home.

  2. Now more recently, the govt figured out what it was going to cost, decided there’s no way in hell we are paying for all that.

  3. We’re going to do the quarantine thing for another few weeks to keep up appearances, and then they’re going to tell us that we’ve all learned a lot about distancing and washing our hands, so people should feel free to get back at it and use their own discretion regarding personal risk.

  4. All kinds of people are going to make bad decisions or be put into impossible situations.

I have a young and (relatively) healthy family, and I felt like I was making a difference with my actions in the spirit of social solidarity, and now I can see it’s going to be pointless. Happy to be talked out of this point of view.

I mean I am not sure what is more shocking, that Trump and Co. are going to ask olds to die to prop up the stock market or that I am not that shocked by that being reality.

You are only fucked if you live in a trumpy red state (not Ohio, he seems ok). I’m honestly convinced at this point that Cuomo will allow the restrictions to be lifted over his rotting corpse. He’s hit the apex of what he could possibly do in his political career and he knows it. He’s doing this because he’s smart and knows it’s the only way to avoid 500,000 dead new yorkers, and he doesn’t give a shit how much pressure he gets from the business community, and thank god we live in a country where the states have a lot more police power than the feds on health stuff like this.

If there’s one thing I know about the Boomers it’s that they will not be even a little bit happy about being asked to sacrifice anything. They are going to be absolutely enraged. Lol imagine thinking that you can get the Boomers to sacrifice their lives for literally anything.

It’s not going to work. If he lifts the limits (again mostly in red states), then everyone is going to know somebody who died and it’ll pierce even their stupid maga brains. Maybe not all of them, but enough. I don’t believe for a second the magachuds are a suicide cult.

US govt didn’t tell people to stay home and they can’t tell most of us to go back to work either.

And he said it to Tucker on Fox lol. Millions of Boomers gasped in unison.

The CDC issued a 10 person max gathering advisory.

Before or after the NBA, NHL and a bunch of states already did their own thing?

After

Right, so I think a bunch of states will continue to do there own thing.

What you are going to see in a handful of weeks is look, we’ve got some terrific treatments, we know about social distancing now, wash your hands, and everyone should make their own self-assessment about risk level and act accordingly. The US is re-opened for business.

What people (and especially Trump), forget, is that this isn’t a binary decision. If millions of people start dropping dead, it doesn’t matter if you have a lockdown or not, because people are going to hide in their fucking homes. So we can either lockdown now and try to save lives, or we can all cower in our homes while vans come by and shout bring out your dead. If we’re going to 30 percent unemployment on this path then we sure as shit are going to 30 percent unemployment on the second path.

Like I don’t think people get just how bad this could get. It’s not just the dead. it’s like a quarter of the population of the US being sick all at once. You think supplies are short now? How about if supply chains actually break down because people are too sick to drive trucks and go work on farms. How about a broken arm or a heart attack being a death sentence because the health care system has collapsed. People will starve. There will be riots and civil unrest. The network effects of an uncontrolled outbreak are nearly incalculable. There is a reason every single country on the face of the god damned earth is doing the same thing right now.
