SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

…but almost no testing?

The US government said wearing masks makes catching the coronavirus more likely.

Yeah it’s weird. No one knows yet if they’re a time bomb or onto something.

Members of Congress can get tests. The general public can’t.

That’s because they knew we were facing a shortage of masks for healthcare workers, and don’t want people to panic-buy them. Healthcare workers need them for protection. Masks for civilians in public are as much or more to protect people from the wearer as protect the wearer from people.

China requires them, a large % of the people in Asia wear them already for pollution or cold and flu season. The WHO recommends them. We just don’t have enough and apparently we’re too stupid to just make one instead of raiding scarce resources needed for hospital workers.

Also I think there’s some major cultural push back to us becoming a “mask country” - like our leaders just really don’t want to see that for some reason.

Everyone who was slurping Ohio for their response may want to hold up for a second.

Apparently Ohio AG say no abortions during COVID-19 outbreak.

What do you guys think about wearing my P100 mask when shopping and then closing my eyes and spraying my face with rubbing alcohol upon leaving the store? Would that damage the filters somehow (getting misted with rubbing alcohol) ??

Am I the only one fine with members of Congress getting tests while normal people can’t? They are currently trying to pass a 1.4 trillion dollar+ economic bill and stuff. Probably wouldn’t be great if half of them have to end up in quarantine with a bunch of them being sick.

I think they should save the tests for the NBA.

IMO, masks serve as a visual reminder of the existence of the virus and encourage people to keep away from each other through that.

Even if the masks do just that, it’s a positive

At this point, I don’t give a fuck if I end up on twitter wearing my p100 mask in the grocery store. You can’t even smell chlorine with that thing on so it has to be better than nothing.

Those bills are more likely to pass if certain congresspeople aren’t there to vote on them.

I don’t mind some prioritization of tests for government officials, but, especially when tests seem to be in somewhat short supply, it would be nice if that was paired with other signs that they are actually taking this seriously like trying to set up some system for remote voting if that has to be done. not continuing to fly back to their districts, etc. If this is serious, take it seriously in every way. I don’t want them to just continue going about their business while hoping that their ability to get better access to testing and treatment will save them…

Im probably going to say this at least once a week for the next six months (hopefully that is all) but thanks for the info, the jokes and keeping me sane. Incredible how we seamlessly transitioned from Bernie stans to full blown Corona info channel.

I’m pro-choice, but I get it, that’s definitely an “elective surgery” (I’m assuming all other elective surgeries have been canceled as well, if not that’s bs). If they’re disallowing abortions where the health of the mother is at risk though that’s bs.

18-year-old with underlying conditions dies in England

The latest figures for coronavirus-related deaths in England included a person as young as 18, the NHS says.

Cuomo a little while ago on CNN basically said it’s a bidding war between states for supplies now. He said they are paying $7 for masks that they used to pay $0.85 for. It’s becoming increasingly obvious why businesses don’t want Trump to actually use the Defense Production Act. Then they will lose their power to gouge.
