The kind of person who wants to be a manager is heavily weighted towards absolute sociopaths. Being a manager sucks, you have to really love being in charge of other people to chase it.
Which is why, if you find a job with a good manager, think very long and hard about leaving. I wouldn’t leave my current job for a 50% raise; I’ve spent too
many unhappy years working for assholes.
Thanks for posting. That explains a lot more what’s going on. I can see why they’re still telling us not to wear masks. There is a shortage of both kinds of masks.
People at home can make their own or use a bandana or something but that’s not feasible for hospital workers.
Seems like it’s done pretty well for the past week, considering the Biogen meeting. MA was 5th in number of cases until early this week, when a ton of states shot past it. The low testing numbers are definitely a concern, considering that we have so many excellent hospitals. Although I looked it up, and we have slightly below average number of beds per capita. The state health department says that it has automated testing and reporting, so maybe testing will ramp up; not sure. The reporting was erratic before 3/17, and now it seems to be about 800 tests/day.
I think some positive news is that there are not that many cases in Boston. Compared to NYC, where like 60% of the cases are in the city, MA cases are only 20% in Boston.
We should probably be in mandatory lockdown, but that has not happened yet. I went out for the first time in about 10 days yesterday, and saw lots of anxious people at the grocery store, several with masks and/or gloves, and quite a bit of local traffic. The local bike path was reportedly quite busy. Seems like people are expecting things to get bad.
