I just watched Trudeau speak. While I am not a huge fan in general he is killing our response. He is completely calming, statesmanlike and in control. Never been happier to be Canadian.

I have been making presentations to Boards for like 10 years and this is indeed the case. A lot of it is governance theatre.

Wuhan is a lot better than Chinese or China. It’s semi-accurate at least. But still racist.
While I think that is possible it is well under 50% that Trump winning in 2020 means he’s POTUS in 2025 and that’s not counting the very real and wonderful possibility that he doesn’t live that long.
OK well I was presuming a bunch of people were going to call me a crazy person for worrying about the dog walks or the running. I’m in the suburbs, but it’s dense. And the only thing people have to do is go for a walk. Just took the dog out and didn’t come within 6 feet of anyone, but came within 20 feet of literally a couple dozen people. Everybody is out there. I’m going to change my route to cut that down.
I will hang my hat on the idea that if really IS that contagious it’s not as deadly as feared. And also, if I can catch it from a passing car, I’m going to get it regardless.

Agreed, it actually goes to show that what the situation calls for from heads of state is mostly empty platitudes. That is Mr. Trudeau’s specialty after all.

I get the sense that Bill James believes that it is not necessarily racist to call it the “Wuhan virus” so long as you don’t intend to be racist, but that some people who say that very much intend to be racist.
A quick perusal suggests that he is very strongly anti-Trump.

He thinks that Democrats need to be more boldly liberal. He thinks they would do better by advocating for:
- Strong limits on passing wealth from generation to generation.
- Much, much, much more aggressive regulation of deceptive business practices by large companies.
- Free college education.
- Reform and repeal of many national drug laws.
- Extensive targeted programs to help inner cities.
- Better treatment of incarcerated people who have not committed heinous crimes.
But at the same time, he advises Dems to:
- Stop pushing for National Health Care.
- PLEASE stop trying to tell us that you are making something more affordable when you subsidize expenditures on it.
- Stop conflating political beliefs with economic needs.
- Stop running against the Republicans, and go back to running FOR the office.
- For Christs’ sake, stop yelling “racist” at everybody who disagrees with you.
I used to work at Quest Diagnostics on Ortega Hwy - aka the most dangerous highway in CA. We had a 3 year stretch of losing 1 person a year out of 3000 workforce to death or paralysis.
I feel like my risk is much less taking a walk. Although I guess I’m risking giving it to someone else - even though I’m barely interact with anyone for the forseeable future.

But as you know our gov’s whole strategy is made up on the fly as they (or Cummings) go along, and it’s not at all surprising that they’ve forgotten about the self-employed hole.
68 new cases in the CR since 9 AM this morning. Now up to 833 cases total. Probably break 900 easily in the next announcement which will be at 9 AM tomorrow.
Positive news is that there has been another recovery (4th so far) and no one has died from coronavirus here as of right now. There are over 20,000 people quarantined by the government due to contact with a person who tested positive for it.
Anyway, testing capacity continues to rise but medical supplies are coming in slower than expected. But just enough exist for the time being.

Kind of, but not really. Assuming the pandemic continues for a few months - at least - I don’t think there’s a good time for it. Legislators have very immediate concerns right now - it would look REALLY bad if they tried to impeach.
