A future world populated only by the spawn of security guards is a hell of a thought.
Yeah Cholorquine is only approved for use against Malaria in Pakistan and supposedly can have bad side effects when paired with a lot of other common drugs so it will not be a miracle cure, but it might still have a positive risk / benefit for some people

chloroquinine is a very old treatment for malaria that’s approved everywhere, including in the US. Certainly just not approved by Pakistan.
I asked my sister who is a nurse practitioner about this for our mom and she said these drugs have very serious side effects and she wouldn’t prescribe it to my mom.
There’s a trial in the UK being undertaken to check the efficacy of the extant drug Siltuximab, (AKA Sylvant) occasionally used for the treatment of certain cancers.
Apparently in severe cases covid-19 causes the immune system to create a surfeit of interleukin-6 cytokines that causes unwanted inflammation of the lungs. Siltuximab binds to these IL-6 receptors, rendering them redundant. Comes with a long list of side effects though.
At least 16 people in jail in France for breaking lock down, facing 15k fines and a year in prison (though France also isn’t really enforcing ‘short’ sentences at the minute). Most of them seemingly in the parisian banlieue (disproportionately non white), which is the way it goes here. Another fun thing to keep an eye on.
Wherein Lindsey Graham and Mitt Romney propose Universal Basic Income, and Unstuckpolitickers hope for a day when everyone is under house arrest enforced by the army.
I think Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is used somewhat widely but rgular Chloroquine (Resochin) is only used in Pakistan
Went for a drive in Southern California to check things out. Freeways as packed as ever. Businesses ignoring the order until its clarified they are shut down I guess.

gonna win in a landslide in November, good job Democrats
The road between now and then is not gonna be through sunlit uplands.
Carlson goes through that whole rant without ever mentioning the name “Senator Richard Burr”. What’s up with that?
And when it’s finally all over after the second autumnal wave, the centrist and right wing politicians agree that it’s a super duper way to reduce crime and to keep some of the army gainfully employed.
They were probably bang to rights, but I doubt other places weren’t just as bad. Not sure how it will go if that sort of thing carries on or ramps up. I think it’s possible it will be ok, the confinement is generally very popular here at the moment, but given the recent history of the police and the banlieue I can’t help but notice it.
I’ll point out:

I suspect conservatives are going to try to use the concept of UBI as a way to turn social spending programs into block grants. Block grants have been a way for Republicans to cap spending on welfare programs, which means that those programs suffer when times get desperate and more people need help but the total dollars allocated don’t go up.
In the rush to get a temporary UBI idea out there, we have to be careful that the need for short-term aid doesn’t blind us to how this can be used as a trojan horse to kill off entitlement programs. One big concern is that UBI would count as income that would make people ineligible for other forms of government aid.
