Rudy Giuliani, Ruh Roh

He just declares bankruptcy and keeps everything.

It’s what rich people do.

These are not guys who listen to advice that goes against their own decisions, especially when it comes from younger people.

Hate the guy, but 148 million is ridiculous.

Time man of the year: NY juries.

I thought we had free speech!

Meh, he was actually doubling and tripling down during the trial. It’s somewhat amazing he didn’t get someone killed.

I like the big number. Even if it gets reduced by 80% it’s still almost $30M.

I can’t decide if Rudy takes the $950k or the shot at $30M in this spot.

He was still at it here. His lawyers were freaked. “Hey, we gotta go.” Lol.

As in, it wasn’t 584 kajillion?!

Homestead exemption might be peak LOL LAW.

A 2nd grader could figure out how to game that shit.

I imagine he’s been busy hiding assets and doing whatever he can to avoid paying up. Good hunting to Freeman and Moss.

So is there some lolLaw rule where his attorneys get paid before the judgement?

:person_shrugging: Maybe they got their’s upfront. Or possibly someone else is paying them? Otherwise I’d guess they have to get in line with the rest of Rudy’s creditors after he declares bankruptcy. IANAL

Not a good advertisement for the Trump economy.

I guess this leaves him free to exercise his First Amendment rights. Or can he be charged with criminal defamation?

I’m pretty sure that bankruptcy only applies to claims as of the date you file. So if you continue to commit defamation after you file, those new claims would not be discharged of by the bankruptcy. I guess you could file again, but there are limitation on repeat filings.

The judgment for Freeman and Moss can’t be discharged in bankruptcy, at least according to this AP article. It seems like for practical purposes he’s already financially toast, so what more can anyone do to him if he continues to defame them? I will repeat IANAL.

But declaring bankruptcy likely will not erase the $148 million in damages a jury awarded to the former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea’ “Shaye” Moss. Bankruptcy law does not allow for the dissolution of debts that come from a “willful and malicious injury” inflicted on someone else.

Gonna be astonishing when he continues to do whatever he wants every day for the rest of his life with zero consequences.

Yeah, probably

but it still will never not be hilarious that he didn’t give up after '08 and retire to speaking fees and Adam Sandler movie cameos.

Welcome to America.
