RFC: Permanently Ban Churchill

I think context and tone are key. I mean, the American left-right spectrum in 2022 is very different from 2000 and very different from the rest of the world.

You have like right wing Never Trumpers voting straight Dem, you have Biden voters in the primary who are right around the middle, then like median Dems, progressives, and leftists.

Then there’s also the context of like are we talking true economic/fiscal left-right, or social issues?

Some of these posters strike me as a little bit right of center economically/fiscally, well left of center on social issues, and more to the right on like policing/authority/law and order.

Well, to kinda circle back to my original point, I think it’s more advantageous for us to call iron a lefty than to call him a righty.

Advantageous as in trying to move him left? Now it becomes interesting psychology. Does he move more to the left if we inclusively call him a lefty rather than a righty? Or does he want to stay around the middle, so calling him center-right is more likely to move him towards his perceived middle than anything else?

I wasn’t on either level, I was just kind of describing posters without thinking too much in the context of an earlier discussion. I’m not really psycho-analyzing how to move UPers to one side or the other, since we’re mostly on the same team, generally speaking.

Interfere with the place they own?

As for trolling, there’s people you presumably respect who disagree with you about who’s trolling or to what extent. How broad of a consenus do you want for who’s trolling? Or is that something that even matters more than just what your personal opinion is?

Nothing in Churchill’s offending post struck me as ban worthy or anything posters couldn’t choose to ignore.

I’m not sure why you think ramifications for peoples actions is counter to communal ownership.

The site is owned by its members and we also set our standards.

Ownership isn’t a free pass to be a continual disruptive force in the community. It’s actually the opposite. As an owner we expect higher standards.

RIP Keed.

Let’s say there was a golf club owned by all the members, and I was granted membership and bought in and then showed up once every few weeks and took a big shit on the floor. Do you think, “I own part of this place! That’s MY floor!” would keep me from getting kicked out?

And most of them aren’t spending much time in the threads in question and don’t have the full perspective.

Most people most active in the threads in question seem to agree.

I know this is an analogy, but irl hero of the people literally posted pictures of feces on this forum in one of his insufferable performance art threads.

Bump for visibility if there’s anyone else who wants to be heard on this issue

so when’s the final vote? Let’s get this moving!

You would know about sarcastic exclamation points. I guess his following the proscribed process for RFC (I think…straw poll that proceeds to real poll) is trolling and he should have just let this horrible idea of a thread die.

Keeed, you are an honest man. How would you rate this post/bump of yours as far as trolling goes?

OK guys, neither of you are being helpful here.

Seems pretty mild. Hope everyone involved is OK.

But by my admittedly imperfect understanding of the Byzantine KFC rules, this can proceed to a vote on the banning of churchill at any time. @anon29622970 I think is the expert here, right? Does this thread expire at any time? Just seems fair to move forward ASAP rather than let this hang over churchill’s head indefinitely.

Happy Friday Keeed!

My ruling is that Keeed is playing games, but he’s not saying anything that he doesn’t believe, which is what he’s been accused of consistently for years.

So we should take him literally, but not seriously? Or the other way around? I always get that confused.
