RFC: Permanently Ban Churchill

It is infinitely easier to get banned on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook than UP. You’re very wrong about this.

Sure, you don’t get banned on Twitter for not posting a citation. But you do for telling someone to fuck off, or calling them a ■■■■■ which was a two year argument here.

I got a perma Twitter ban for telling Katie Hopkins to fuck off on a super racist post which got her permanently banned!

Gee, I wonder which way the people who only come around here to throw a wrench into the works will vote on that?

I would support some kind of rules on voter eligibility as I laid out a long time ago, even if for no other reason than closing the obvious vulnerability to a 51% attack.

Our forum was nuked from 2p2 with no warning. Like one person from the group in question here got permabanned, I believe.

How many go back to attack the structure of the site?

Nobody is calling for heavy forum moderation. Holy shit we have like two or three permabans in three years. The people in favor of more are calling for like 2-3 more. You’re talking about people calling for fewer than 1% of posters to be permabanned in a given year.

And here’s the thing… if we had a system in place with a little more permabanning, I have a feeling we’d have a lot less need to use the permaban, because people would reform their posting way before that point.

Church has been temp-banned 20 times from the COVID thread alone, and at least once elsewhere. I believe we’re talking about SIX different mods temp-banning him. No improvement in his posting! He’s had extremely light moderation overall, he keeps repeat offending, and this is somewhat being construed as heavy-handed moderation.

No, it isn’t at all. The folks banned at Twitter are either inciting violence, openly racist, posting porn committing crime, etc. All those reasons would result in ban here too.

Do you think Sabo would be banned at Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram? On what grounds? Do you think Churchill would be temp banned by Twitter 20 times? On what grounds?

Show your work.

I don’t believe the people who started this site were coordinating to troll this community in the 2p2 Politics forum, and I think that take is outlandish. If you meant something else, then I don’t understand what you mean.

The retconning on the Council of Captains stuff has been absurd.

Personal attacks are way more moderated on Twitter than they are here.
You don’t get to be banned 20 times on Twitter. It goes 24 hour timeout, 3 day timeout, permanent ban. That you do not know this shows your ignorance here.
(There are some exceptions for big accounts obviously, but twitch, Twitter etc all hand out bans to gigantic accounts before the 20th ban!)

Nipples are I assume moderated more heavily on Instagram, but I’m waiting on someone here to test that theory.

Would Sabo be banned at social media sites?

Churchill?

David Sklansky?

On what grounds?

I can’t tell the difference because I’ve had guys like him and jal on ignore for a few years now. They add nothing to the board nor my experience hereon and I think they’d get bored and leave if everyone who says they have a problem with them followed suit…hence my no vote. It’s not that he doesn’t suck, it’s that it’s unnecessary.

If your take is that this site should be more like Twitter or Facebook, I don’t think that’s a popular take around here. I think we’re mostly trying to be better than that.

Both Sklansky and Churchill would be banned for stuff they have sent in DMs to people on here/2p2. I dont have an encyclopedic knowledge of their posts to engage in this weird hypothetical in which you are very unaware of how these platforms moderate though. Maybe if you knew more about the subject it could be more constructive and less hypothetical?

Hot thread!

Does this mean that you think policing misinformation wouldn’t make Twitter better?

Your belief that there is a secret cabal formed to troll this site is just your own imagined version of the “council”

But let’s not relitigate your fantasies. The point is this site was formed by folks who no longer felt welcome at or happy with the direction of 2p2 politics.

That is a similar feeling held by a group of posters here regarding this site. Being unhappy with current status or direction of politics site is not unique to them.

It’s hilarious to me now that you mention it that FB doesn’t even ban trolls. I only have a troll account left there and it’s just one 30-day ban after another at this point.

Meanwhile, Twatter sends accounts to perma band camp on the reg, but only actual humans. The bots can stay!

that’s like the Baptists and Shia innit?

It was dumb not to address these things when the forum was starting up. People had too much faith in the good will of other posters. Too much optimism on the part of the Founding Fathers is why we have a dumbass Constitution, so it’s not like people are alone there.

I’m just happy to see this many voters in the OP. I wish more of them would post here. I don’t know how to fix this shit but I wish it was fixed.
