Reveal Thread: Walrus Grab Bag 2 - The Walrus Strikes Back

Alright. Still alive after the bottom 4 has me happy so far

#9 is another folky song by a duo that I had never heard of before Walruses but has now shown up in several of them for me. I like them and she has a good voice. Not haunting but closer to hauntingly beautiful than Donovan, but still not what I was looking for. I did have this higher earlier on before a few of the songs right above it grew on me on repeated listens. This song is more accessible so ranks higher at first but doesn’t bring me back over many listens.

So as I said earlier, electronic sounds etc can be hit or miss for me. This one is more hit than the other. It also seems like the music adds some haunting atmosphere to the song so that’s a plus for this category.

I would consider this song to be haunting but not hauntingly beautiful. The part at 1:21 is definitely the best part.

Not adding this to my playlist, but good fit and it grew on me some over the listens.

#7 reminds me of a Fever Ray submission to my walrus over on the other site recently. This fits in the category and the music mostly adds to the atmosphere. I’m not a huge fan of this style of female singing, but it works for this song.

Just scrolling, but dis mine, and I definitely went for haunting, not the alternative. Glad you liked.

Good reveal so far. Really digging these songs.

I like this song, I almost really like it but for some reason doesn’t quite get there. Interesting sound overall. Still alive.

#6 sounds like a lot of modern female pop songs that I somewhat like. Not adding it to my playlist either, but I like her voice. I do wish they’d strip it down some, but this is the style these days it seems.

This ended up at the top of the middle pack as of today. #5 is a step up for me and then the top 4 are on their own tier.

I like this one. Sounds like Joni Mitchell, who I love. Not mine though.

Nice. I like this song and feel it has a haunting quality to it. Now if only I knew if I best Rivaldo

Yeah, this is starting to get into what I would consider haunting.

It would certainly be less so without the piano

#5 is the top of the male singing songs. It reminds me of the 80’s genre that included bands like Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, etc.

The beat is catchy, the singing is good and I like the style and enjoy the final minute when it starts having 2 singers. I’ll add this to my playlist for something a little different to come on from time to time.

This stayed at 5 basically the whole time and was never really in danger of moving down.

Top 4 coming up. They are all exactly what I was hearing in my mind with this category and similar to the 3-4 examples I gave for what I was looking for. I didn’t score based on category fit, though, but these ended up being my favorite songs of the group and these 4 were in that top grouping the whole time, though the ordering changed a bit during the weeks.

Come on third podium not third time one off podium!

Edit: Got there!

#4 starts off great (and all the verses are great), but the chorus is a little too Bond film to make the podium against this group.

I really like this submission, though.

Oh well. It’s hauntingly beautiful compared to the normal stuff I listen to. Dodged a final nodium

That is a puzzling choice for this category.

Woohoo, finishing strong with on a podium! Love it!

These are close, but I’m not doing any ties, so let’s get the podium started.

I said a few days ago somebody submitted their leftover song from another category and should feel good about it. This one actually spent some time at the top spot, but it gets slightly edged out to come in at #3.

I guess I need to look into video game music.
