Reveal Thread: Walrus Grab Bag 2 - The Walrus Strikes Back

I thought it must be. I’m astonished I’ve never come across them - great stuff

This one is fun, probably bad luck to be this low.

As much as I have berated the earlier entries the top 6 were all excellent. A huge gap between 6th and 7th

You’re in for a treat if you like that, they’ve been going since the mid 90s and, as befits unashamed Ramones fans, have been sticking to their formula.

I was referring to the song that got 10th, I liked it! I like the 8th place song a lot too. Overall strong category imo.

I fucking love the Ramones. I’ve even seen the Ramonas three times

I haven’t either, and I love Ramones-type punk. Definitely giving them a listen

Cannons - Fire for You

This was the winner in the walrus within a walrus of pop/rock bands with a female singer

This is just a beautiful slice of pop music, and I liked it more with every listen. The production is superb, I love her voice, lovely dream like vibe. Great entry

Yeah Cannons is mine. Honestly I heard this song on the radio a few days before the submission deadline, thought it was excellent but might be too mainstream, then pivoted back to it after reading your description again. Was honestly hoping for a podium here just because I think this is basically pop perfection.

Apparently this was on the soundtrack to a cute Netflix show I watched, which is why I’ve heard it before.

Nice track.

still not mine. It seems your fears for me were unfounded

Interesting backing track during the chorus gives it something a little extra.

I’ve just remembered something I haven’t thought of for years.

I must have been 19/20 years old and first moved to London and used to hang out with a few like minded music fans, 3 of us got Ramones dogtags, Mine had ggramone and gabba gabba hey stamped on them. I wore those for a good 20 years, even got married in them. Going to try and dig them out later

It is pop perfection, I feel bad it didn’t finish higher

The Cure - Hot Hot Hot

Commentary - The Cure does funk. You know that’s right!

I mean its not the greatest moment the Cure have had, and it’s not completely convincing as they get their funk thang on, but it is a lot of fun, and it made me smile every single time it came on, so you can’t ask for much more than that

I saw the Cure way back in 1980, I can’t remember much about it, but they did an encore of Gary Glitter’s Do You Want To Touch – I imagine they have dropped that from the set now

I will take one spot off the podium.

I would put it in the 10-20 rank of songs by them that I like best, but it was the song that popped into my head first. glad I went with it.

I saw the Cure in 2016. They played a 34-song set at the big outdoor concert center here. It was pretty epic. Yes, I said 34 songs. Would have kept going too if not for noise ordinance laws requiring them to be off stage by midnight.

I also forgot to mention in my commentary that this song ALSO mentions fish…so i was double covered :stuck_out_tongue:

Lana Del Rey - The Greatest

LANA!!!

The God like genius of Lana Del Ray

Well I just love this. I’ve been playing the album it comes from, “Norman Fucking Rockwell” a bunch over the last year, and I would recommend it to anyone. This song is so atmospheric and elegiac. (I’ve never actually used that word before. Hope it’s appropriate)

This is the only song I knew from the entries otherwise it could well have been the winner.

This is me, obviously. I guess I kinda outted myself as a Lana fan a few times now.

I love the video for this one. I’ve been watching it all week.
