Fooled me too
Oh… you got me there.
This was in my final 6
I also hated it
I like it. Not mine though.
It doesn’t fit the category but Miley Cyrus‘s cover of Jolene is excellent.

Lady Sovereign – Pretty Vacant, originally by the Sex Pistols
This is from one of the six(!?!) soundtrack albums from The O.C., a show I have never watched, but whose music I occasionally encounter, including as a source for covers.
I don’t actively hate this song, but there’s something that feels a bit off to me, like it’s someone play-acting rather than being a real musician. I’m not really into the Sex Pistols either. And I’m not convinced that Lady Sovereign is musically superior to Iggy Azalea.
There we go. That’s mine.
At about the 2:30 mark I thought no way should this be 5.5 minutes long.
Didn’t expect to but kinda liked The White Stripes. Nice to remember Lady Sovereign existed too.
It’s mine and I absolutely saw this coming after NBZ’s submissions to other categories so I’m disappointed but not surprised. The guitar riffs in this song give me, as my buddy says, “tinglies in my plums.” Hope you at least enjoyed the bizarre Sims video - apparently it’s the only way to get the album version rather than a live version with less crisp sound. I’ll submit my alternative choice after the reveal and you can tell me how many points I cost myself.
I am fairly certain that this song does not belong to @skydiver8, but my write-up made me think of some of her comments in this thread.

Katie Cole - Open Secrets, originally by Rush
I’m not a Rush fan. I associate Rush with rich kids from Anderson Township. (Maybe Skydiver can explain that one.) And I have a hard-on for denigrating anything with the taint of libertarianism.
This song isn’t bad, but it’s just there. I don’t have much to say about it.
Can‘t remember the original but I like this version
hahaha that’s not mine and I am laughing at your description of Rush fans. I know what you mean, too. It’s one of those bands you’re supposed to like because everyone else says they’re great. Meh.
pleased to have avoided the nodium here.
Great Sunday, a last place in walrus and getting massacred in fantasy football. Gonna go drown my sorrows in the Princess Bride live feed I guess
When I was at school anyone who liked Rush was someone to avoid
White Stripes cover was great
Well, there goes the nodium
From here on out, it’s all Pauwl.

Violet Orlandi - Coma White, originally by Marilyn Manson
Violet Orlandi is a Brazilian Youtuber who specializes in acoustic covers of rock songs. There’s a market for that and she is competent at it, so I don’t hate it, but I don’t feel as much of an emotional connection to her work.
I like what she was going for, but doesn’t get there imo.
My brother has a wifi issue, so there will be a delay. Cutting and pasting is harder from my phone.
OK, wifi back on, NFL streaming back on. Am I going too fast? I should probably give people time to listen to each entry and formulate a comment before moving on, right?

Shonen Knife - When you Sleep, originally by My Bloody Valentine
Japanese pop punk band Shonen Knife is one of those acts that I am familiar with primarily through their covers. I appreciate their cheerful spins on songs and have added several of their covers to my MP3 collection over the years. I think they do covers well enough to not feel like a novelty act.
