I happen to love salt. I have 3 kinds. Might make it 4. I feel bad for those whose bp doesn’t allow them to enjoy this indulgence.

I’ve never been a fan. I almost never add salt to my meal. However I am a fan of soy sauce in cooking. I need to try the sodium reduced one. I’m a pepper freak though but thankfully I can have as much of that as I want.

To be clear, I think salt is needed for food to taste good. If it’s seasoned properly, there’s no need to add salt at the table. If I’m adding extra, it’s like for a little more crunchy stuff on the surface. Ofc there’s an optimal amount that varies by food and personal preference.

I’m reading Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat and The Food Lab so I’m an expert now.

Oh yeah you definitely need to use some when cooking certain things. I used to have 3 types of salt but am down to 2 now. My bf loves salt and insults me at every meal by adding salt before tasting the food!

Yes I am sure her head was turned by all that free salt. How could she resist?

It’s amazing how much is added to a lot of processed foods. I never really noticed until I started looking due to my bp.

True. Very tough to stay under the recommended amount unless you’re very careful. Pizza? Forget about it. :(

I make my own so it’s not laden with salt and sugar that commercial ones often have. Plus my bf and I prefer it so it’s a win win, well except for my waist lol. I only generally do it about once a month though.

Sounds awesome. I haven’t got to the pizza chapters of my books yet. Maybe some day.

I’ll post a pic next time I make it.

Speculation: Less salt will be used for the same saltiness of taste if there’s less salt mixed into the food and more of it is added after cooking and sitting on the surface.

I think I use a teaspoon for 2 pizza bases.

That’s what I thought but the experts say different. Here’s an experiment you can try (I think this is from SFAH): take two slices of tomato, salt them both with the same amount of salt. Eat one immediately and the second one a few minutes later. What’s the difference? Is one better? Why?

I’ve been struggling to stay within my calorie goal atm. Really need to pull it in for any hope of weight loss this week.
