I had Google’s mesh system for several years (first the original wifi, then the Nest), and I just replaced them a few weeks ago with Eero 6+ when they were on sale. So far, they’ve been flawless and my wife especially has noticed a big improvement on her desktop. (My desktop is located at the router, so I never have any idea how the wireless is working.)

I had good luck with Beats wired earbuds before going back to AirPods proper. Beats Flex – Wireless Earbuds – Beats - Flame Blue

For your network you might look into DIY range extenders like Pringle cans…

I bought a pair of Beats that were defective out of the box, an had an original pair of AirPods that died about three days after the warranty expired.

Even so, I’m leaning toward going with the AirPods Pro 2 and getting extended coverage.

My office is pretty noisy. Anyone have a recommendation for a good headset or earpiece to use on teams that doesn’t pick up sounds from around me?

Anker soundcore are a good mid level brand. Good quality for the price. The Liberty 4’s just came out and supposedly have great ANC for the price point.

Followup question regarding earbuds.

What would you guys say is the average length of time your wireless buds lasted?

Or, how long would you expect a new pair of buds to last?

Without any fault of my own, 2 to 3 years. Because a lot of dumb things happen like running them through the wash accidently, about 6 months to a year.

It’s time to start planning for Thanksgiving.

I usually order a ham from New Braunfels smokehouse and it’s been great for the last 10 years. Always a crowd pleaser, but maybe there’s something better out there.

Anybody have any recommendations in case I want to switch it up this year?

ETA: Guess I need to clarify after @kerowo’s suggestion. Recommendations for a different ham company?

my airpods pro 2 are two years old and I use them extensively. it feels like the buds themselves have the same battery life they’ve always had but the case seems like it doesn’t go as far between charges.

Thanks for the feedback. Just trying to gauge how much lifetime I should reasonably expect out of a new pair of earbuds, and given that, how much I should sensibly spend on my next pair.

My Sony WF-1000XM4 lasted about two years and change. Best sound quality by far I’ve ever had, but not sure if it’s worth putting out $200 for something that’s going to die again in two years.

Going to check out the AirPod Pro 2 next week when I’m in Tokyo, and if I like, might pick those up since hey have a good warranty. But also considering just going cheaper and getting something like the Anker Soundcore recommended above.

We got an Eero system maybe 3 yrs ago. Pretty good, tho the range has reduced a wee bit. 3 hubs in the house and one in the barn about 150’ away thru a metal roof. Works fine there w a 4k TV + devices.
Range used to go down the end of the garden (250’/300’), not just to the barn. Not now.
That’s my only data point.

I need to get a new headlamp and some kind of good clip-on light for my backpack for hiking/rucking (hate that term) after dark, anyone have a good experience with any specific brand/model of these? These are the types of cheapish items where you look on Amazon and there’s an endless list of products that all cost about the same, and all magically have thousands of reviews rating them 4.6/5. I’m happy to pay a little more for something that’s noticeably better-made and won’t break apart like a piece of sun-dried shit after a couple weeks. I thought I’d check here before basically throwing darts with Amazon’s selection.

I’ve used this for a few years now for my morning hikes. You can wear it around your head or pull it down like a necklace and have it hanging from your neck. It has 3 brightness levels but I’m always able to see enough with the lowest setting. Batteries are rechargeable and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it show less than fully charged, I recharge it every week or so but am only doing 4-6 hours of hiking in the dark.

Oh, it will also automatically dim if it senses light to keep you from annoying other hikers by shining the light in their face, mostly that makes it dim in the snow, but in the snow you don’t need much light to see the trails anyway…
