the 12s actually do use a different mechanism (“magsafe” - not to be confused with the former macbook charger connector)

I haven’t read up on it but my guess it’s it’s “mostly” the same with magnets to make sure the phone is positioned correctly. I am guessing if you’re not EXACTLY in the right spot it won’t work which is probably why there are mixed reports in the reviews

Or maybe it’s just that half of the reviews are written by juggalos.

I got a pair of these back in June. I’ve only been “hiking” with them once, otherwise it’s all been walks around the neighborhood. But they seem good to me. They feel sturdy and they’re waterproof, which is what I need.

I got mine on clearance so I don’t know if $125 is a reasonable price or not. Hope this helps?

Maybe our resident mountain hiker suzzer would have some recs?

I have that exact pair. Even the color, ha. I got them when I moved back to Utah because I don’t like falling on my ass in ice/snow. I think they were like $25 more than that at the time. Money well spent though I don’t think they’re actually waterproof. Water-resistant, yes. I mainly walk around the neighborhood so that’s not really “hiking” but I think they’d be fine in most situations. Pretty comfortable as well. Also warm.

Very helpful, and just the type of shoe I’m looking for. And they even appear to be available in Japan.

Thank you (and Devil)!

Yes but is the deep personal cost associated with wearing shoes that look like that worth having dry feet?

Ha, around here (Seattle) wearing stuff like that in any situation is pretty common. I call it “REI chic.”

Where I live in rural Japan, it takes a lot more than a goofy pair of shoes to look unfashionable.

For what it’s worth, a podiatrist I went to said that Merrell shoes/boots are really good for the feet.

I went for a walk, about 3.5 miles with snow in some areas. It was slippery but I didn’t fall and my tootsies are comfy, warm, and dry. Win.

Do they really look that bad?

I have no ability to judge these things.

Lol, WTF at the hate for that look.

I love Merrell hiking shoes as well, my first pair lasted me over 10 years. I am partial to having extra ankle support (and warmth in the winter). These are the ones I have now: https://www.rei.com/product/113822/merrell-moab-2-mid-waterproof-hiking-boots-mens?color=BELUGA

Yeah, they actually look fine to me. I mean, that’s what hiking shoes are supposed to look like.

I’ve also got these and am a fan. Orignally got them for summer hiking but i started wearing them in winter and they’re surprisingly warm, the traction isn’t great on snow/ice. I slip and slide when I wear them walking the dogs in MN winters.

And yeah they are certainly not fashionable but I don’t care about that when I’m hiking or walking around the neighborhood

I have to be careful but they are a lot better than my Nikes.

I have a pair of Merrel Moabs that have a higher top so a bit more ankle support. Have had them for about 8 years and they are fantastic, almost as good as new after getting a lot of use.

Edit: very similar to the pair that Spinetta linked to above. You won’t regret that purchase.

I just ordered this, arrives on Friday. It says it is compatible with iPhone 12 but I won’t be able to confirm that for you. Will let you know if it’s any good though if you haven’t found anything suitable before I get it.

That looks perfect. I’ll stay tuned for the trip report. Please include what kind of case you’re using.

Mostly just joking, they are built for function

I’ve been using this charger for a day now and so far it is great, especially for $17. Holds the phone at the perfect angle to view while sitting. Instantly starts charging when you set the phone down in either portrait or landscape. Fast charging when plugged in to the wall, slower speed if you are plugged in to your computer. Seems to be built well and looks sleek. Overall I am a fan so far.

I have a thick case with a hard plastic back that has a built in kickstand that folds out, making it slightly thicker. Not quite Otterbox thick but pretty close. No troubles charging through the case. And just to confirm since it maybe wasn’t clear in my first post, I have a Samsung phone NOT an iPhone 12, but the Amazon page does say it is compatible with iPhone 12s.
