Rap, Hip Hop, Grime, Drill - call it what you will

death of slim shady is out. this goes crazy hard:

Your overall thoughts on the album? Some of the cancel culture complaints were a bit much for me, but I thought he sounded pretty good, there were some definite earworms, and the dude can rap his ass off from a technical perspective. Being 50 years old and able to hang with JID is impressive.

I think some of the cancel culture stuff was making fun of himself or being sarcastic.

It definitely was, but that doesn’t change the fact that he exceeded the number of Caitlin Jenner and Christopher Reeves jokes I personally wanted to hear in 2024.

(I’m here for all the smoke he wants to give Puffy, tho)

Not my typical genre but I think I can contribute. You don’t need to know French to appreciate. 1990. Great track imo. Bit surprised I didn’t see it somewhere thru this thread. MC Solaar was referenced in one of the early tracks posted in this theead. Groove!

Following on…

Is pop-rap allowed? Or does it all have to be cool gangsta dude stuff? More 1990 stuff.
Someone might like it.

The worst thing about Kendrick winning that beef is now I have to listen to Kendrick Lamar songs all the time, brutal

Hopefully the rest of the album is better than Houdini. Christ that song sucks.

I don’t think it’s taken the crown from Nicki Minaj for worst song of 2024, but it’s pretty close.

That JID verse was outrageously good. Had never heard of him before, I was blown away.

:fire:IMO

Yeah, he’s really good. The Forever Story is one of my favorite albums of the last few years.

yeah i mean, it’s good right? i’d agree with everything you said. i actually remember thinking as jid was finishing, “damn he’s gonna have to come correct”.

the “it’s grown ass me fighting 20-year old slim shady’s antics” as a theme is fine i guess. late 90’s/early 00’s reference-fest which, obviously. good guest verses, some good beats.

in my old age i’m getting a little ‘get off my porch’ with the punch-ins for an entire verse. i like my raps with big pun-sized breaths between bars haha.

pleasantly surprised is my analysis. i’d bet there’ll be a handful that make it onto my gym playlist, 2-3 end up on my spotify top 100 year in review, solid album for a 50-year old rapper. couple cringey moments but he’s certainly unique.

i’ve listened straight through twice now, with a couple songs a few more each, every time i skip houdini :man_shrugging:t3:

once when it came out was enough haha.
