Its really funny to just wade into this subject and just not bother to look anything up. Lazio ultras are bad. They are literal nazis. That is bad. Maccabi Tel Aviv ultras are very violent and have recently been banned from multiple countries/cities for hooliganism, including Birmingham. That Micro just weirdly assumes the rest of the world is like american colleges where everyone is just kind of the same level of bad is so funny. English teams were banned in the 1970s for 5 years because of hooliganism! It was bad! They had to make huge efforts to repair their image across the world and it took over 20 years!

If they are the same as everyone else, why does no one else have a chant with slurs that is used at every home game that has caused their fans to be fully banned from attending games?

i haven’t read this thread, but the only thing i have to add is that growing up, my dad was adamant about the power of sports to get different types of people together. back then, it was completely merit-based. didn’t matter if you were black or white, whether or not you could hit a baseball is what mattered.
the city i grew up in was and still is pretty diverse. sports brought everyone together. i had so many friends that i wouldn’t have if i didn’t play sports. my dad’s friends were pretty diverse bc of sports. i had(/have) black “uncles”, can remember being in biker bars after softball games and have been the only white kid on a 13/14 baseball team bc my parents refused to put me in the catholic school system.
that’s about all i got. personal anecdotes apparently vary when you come from a homogenous country and have to play a country different from yours. but the world is (very slowly) changing generation by generation. it’ll get to argentina or whatever country you’re talking about.
last anecdote: in 3 days, im marrying a black woman. we’ve been together 4+ years, and in that time, not once have we been in public and gotten so much as a sideways glance that i’ve seen. we travel as much as we can, we go to plays, concerts and beaches. nobody has ever made a comment about being black/white… that couldn’t/wouldn’t have happened however many decades you want to go back.
speed getting called the n-word bc he was taunting argentina in an extremely heated match was probably just people thinking they were anonymous saying the worst thing they could come up with to him bc sports+country pride will do that to you.

also, and i know this is the 1980’s/gen-x in me, but mexico yelling “PUTO” at the goalie during goal kicks is funny to me. that said, i always thought “puto” meant “bitch”, and if it’s actually a homosexual slur, i’ll reconsider.

Paraguayan senator defends racist rant against Kylian Mbappé — and insults him again
Celeste Amarilla, who has been condemned for posting a series of racist statements on X after Mbappé converted the winning penalty in France’s victory over Paraguay on Saturday, had the opportunity to defend her actions in a senate session Wednesday.
While doing so, she insulted Mbappé again, calling him a “son of a bitch” in Spanish for refusing to shake Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill’s hand, according to video posted by The Associated Press.
“He’s not French, a Frenchman wouldn’t do that,” she added in the video, which was translated by AP.
That same day, after a long debate, the senate passed a motion rejecting Amarilla’s “racist and discriminatory” remarks. According to a statement posted by the senate, Amarilla argued she had acted in defence of her country and felt offended by Mbappé’s actions, but assumed personal responsibility.
The Paraguayan government released a statement Monday afternoon, writing in Spanish that Amarilla’s remarks are “contrary to the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity that our country promotes.”
