The other day my m-i-l bought an Argentina jersey at CVS. She has no connection to Argentina. I understand she was just getting into the WC and liked the colors. Is she a shitbag?
Today microbet is learning that the Argentina fanbase is literally the most racist online? Everyone who actually follows this sport is very aware of their problems with racism.
Canadian world cup broadcaster TSN did an entire show before the tournament on the racist abuse the non white Canadian players received from Argentina fans in 2024 copa America. It was posted in this thread

Do you think you’re embarrassing me about how I don’t know stuff about soccer? What’s generally true is that, more than most collections of people, sports fans are assholes. It’s pretty similar to its more sinister cohort, nationalists.
Soccer is a particularly bad sport obviously, but more often than just about anywhere else, you’re a bunch of screaming idiots.

Standing by the notion that Mexican fans, with literally more than a hundred million people, are worse than some other country’s fans is really despicable racism and xenophobia.

The real racism is the fanbases that have no history of bigotry and instead pointing out the ones who have a decades long history of one. Incredible micro. No, we just point out that the Mexican fans have been banned from attending matches and they have had to have games played with fans banned due to their behavior. That hasnt happened for Norway!

You’re listing anecdotes and using that to slur 100 million+ people. Do you understand how bad that is? Would you recognize the problem if someone listed crimes committed by minorities and said that race was criminally inclined? Anecdote? It is the Mexican National teams games. It happens nearly every game played. Again, if you bothered to do any research you would know this. It has happened for a very long time and they are proud of it. Tens of thousands of fans join in every match. It is not just a few bad apples!

What the fuck? You are illiterate. Where the fuck did I remotely imply that there is not a single fan of the Mexican team who is awful? Of course there are lots. They are people. Regular people. They are terrible at the same rate as people from Norway, you know, white people.
So, just to summarize:
It is racist to call out the Mexican fans for their bigoted chant that they have frequently done at this world cup and nearly every other recent game. No other national fanbase has a similar chant. But it is racist to point this out. FIFA has fined the team multiple times and caused them to play games in empty stadiums for this behavior. But talking about it is racist.
