Presidential Debate Thread

Maybe they are the smart ones who realize they don’t need to think about this until a few days before the election because they will end up in the same place anyways.

Once again “undecided” does not mean you don’t have an opinion. I am undecided about what I will have for dinner tonight, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have well established preferences. The 2020 election had the highest turnout in living memory, but there were still around 80 million eligible voters that stayed at home. This election will be close and the candidate who loses will do so because they couldn’t convince just a few more of their supporters to show up.

Prior to the debate:

Based on your own viewing and/or what you’ve seen other people and media outlets report, do you now think:

  • Tim Walz was the clear winner
  • JD Vance was the clear winner
  • No clear winner
  • Bastard
0 voters

Yeah calling people “Undecided Voters” is a technically correct term, but most people associated that with someone who has yet to make a decision as to their candidate preference.

It would be better referred to as “People Who Don’t Really Feel Like Voting But Might”.

Who said it did?

If you don’t have a strong committed opinion on Trump at this point you are simply too stupid to care about or lying. There are no other options.

It’s year 9 of MAGA.

I legitimately don’t understand the conversation we are having. There are literally tens of millions of undecideds who strongly dislike Trump and know they will never vote for him. It is a very common condition.

Year 9 of MAGA! It’s like polling Germans in 1942 being like “so have you heard of this hitler guy? Any thoughts on him”.

This guy almost certainly voted Clinton in 2016 and very very likely voted Biden in 2020:

And he almost certainly is just as clear eyed about Trump’s moral character today as he was in 2016.

You seem to be defining them as undecided if they will vote only. That isn’t the commonly held definition to my understanding. It’s certainly not the one used when they put these panels of morons on tv after the debate. These people pretend to generally be baffled as to if they will vote trump or Harris in Oct 2024. I simply don’t believe them.

It’s a midwestern thing. Got the zingers when target is not there, but complete conflict avoidance in person.

How do you know a Minnesotan is mad at you?

They are looking at your shoes instead of their own

While it is a joke it’s funny cause it’s true. Lived there 12 years.

There are lots of smart people who pay no attention to politics. And people don’t even watch the news or read newspapers anymore. All the info they get is from algorithms that leave out whatever they don’t follow. Some of them still vote.

If I were voting like a boxing judge I would give it to Vance slightly.

Every ‘scoring’ blow Vance had would be the equivalent of a kidney punch, nut punch, or rabbit punch. It was almost nothing but lies and non-answers. If you had zero clue who he was, you might think he was better than Pence but that’s really about his ‘person’ ceiling.

Lies and non-answers are how you win these things in 2024.

Lots of people have a view of Trump but they might stil vote either way. Not everyone is thoroughly invested one way or another. They may be in the social circles we travel in and certainly in our echo chamber internet land, but again I think you are underestimating how many people more or less don’t give a shit about politics for 3.9/4 years. People have jobs and kids and hobbies that they care about alot more and US culture has convinced them that the President is the Boss Of The Country so they’ll pop in every 4 years to decide if they want tax cuts or handouts. They genuinely arrive at this moment in time without having decided.

Yeah never mind that one side led an insurrection trying to overturn an election and is now running on straight up nazi great replacement theory. At least we can be civil about it!

Fucking poker players man. Pull your heads out.

How would a person, no matter how detached, have no idea who trump is at this point?

They would have to read no news, watch no tv, and pay no attention to any social media. Who are those people?

Trump is easily the most famous human walking the earth today.

First poll I found listed the top 20 and he wasn’t on it. #20 is Jungkook, who I’ve never heard of.

Elon was #1.
