Last one I saw was Trump, but being Canadian I obv just FF through as much as possible.

Saying PA is Midwestern is like saying Maine is the Mid-Atlantic. It’s not remotely anywhere near the Midwest.

How do you feel about someone saying “Pittsburgh is Midwestern”?

I would tell them to look at a map because it ain’t the Midwest lol.

Do the boundaries of the Midwest have to be congruent with state boundaries?

As a former Pittsburgher I’m against it. We’re nice and friendly like midwesterners, but more sophisticated. Midwest starts at Columbus Oh. I’m not sure Cleveland is midwestern.

Pittsburgh isn’t even in the central time zone.

I tend to think of the Midwest as (pre-2014) Big Ten country.

Pittsburghers are nice?

Neither is Ohio (or Indianapolis or Detroit).

If there are any listeners of the Tony Kornheiser show here, this derail reminds me of Wilbon/Toronto.

Yea I wouldn’t consider that to be the Midwest either.

Yeah, they have enough money to make super precisely-targeted ads like this one…I mean, that’s really really niche.

I’ve had people try to tell me Tennessee is in the Midwest
Not a widely held belief afaik

I’d be willing to argue that the pop/soda line delineates the Midwest from the East. Probably has some value in finding the Midwest’s southern border, too.

We don’t call soda “pop” in Missouri.

What about people who refer to all sodas as coke

I’ve heard of that but don’t remember where that happens. Is that a southern thing?

My relatives in IN call all soda “pop”
