You are mixing two narratives here. He is not a progressive candidate. As i said, he would not even be considered left wing in a normal country.

Should you be ‘happy’? Hell no. I was relieved that there wasnt a disaster. You should definitely be depressed that he’s the candidate, but i think most of us already are so it’s a given

I voted for Bernie 2x and donated, attended rallies, texted, made phone calls etc for his campaigns, so I certainly do not align politically with Biden, but I think he is taking the correct positions for winning a general election.
People are dumb and corporate / right wing media has successfully made a lot of reasonable positions sound extreme. Biden is just looking at polls on issues like defunding the police and going with what is most popular among likely voters.

It has to be about power or more money for their donors.
I think it’s just the dog that caught the car. Rs ran on hating Obamacare highly successfully, and now it’s a prisoner’s dilemma for each R politician because if they say “well, actually it’s fine,” they will get primaried for being a hippy commie loving bastard.
Option 1: Looks like we’re not getting Medicare for All anytime soon. Option 2: I might end up in a concentration camp. Hmm…, just don’t know which option, maybe I’ll vote third party.

It bugs me that it’s about the pretty out there theory that middle class+ white people born in the US think this election is about the miniscule chance they will be put in camps when there are already people actually in camps. It gives me the impression that the existing camps will be just as forgotten about if Biden wins.

Not realpolitik enough. Private industry benefits from eliminating the PO. I guess I’ll buy that it’s just politics and they think it’s how they protect their seats. But it can’t be really purely ideological any more than small government and fiscal responsibility are.
And the GOP is full of the rubes, the Fox News audience, like Trump, but the ACA stuff Chris Hayes was tweeting about is coming from totally non-ideological people like McConnell. He could not give a shit about platitudes about government being bad unless they are being used to directly benefit him or his sponsors.
