Post ITT if you have the flu

I have been very sick for three days and I’m going to whine about it. If you are sick you can whine about it too and we will bond in misery.

I’ve had a fever for over 48 hours. I can knock it down a bit with pills, but not get rid of it. Every part of my body hurts. I’m constantly rotating between chills, sweating, and cold sweats.

My headache has been unrelenting since Sunday. Every time I cough (which is a lot), my bad headache spikes to excruciating.

I have no idea what part of my throat is raw or swollen or whatever, but swallowing hurts almost as much as coughing.

When I went to bed last night I had to put an old t-shirt under my head because there was so much snot draining out of my nose that I couldn’t really do much else.

I woke up early this morning to pee. By the time I got to the bathroom I was shaking so badly I had to sit down on the toilet to make sure that’s where the pee would end up. Then I went back to bed and slept until 11:00. From 11:00 to 1:00 I just sort of sat in a stupor, unable to do anything.

So I’m pretty sure I’m going to die imo. Woe unto me. Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man.

How are you feeling?

I havent heard of too many folks with the flu this year, but those that have gotten it have had a hell of a bad time. Hope you feel better.

Gf and I had it last week. My worst was Monday-Wednesday, hers was Wednesday-Friday; both of us were facing the exact symptoms you’re describing and it was absolute hell. My chills/fever/sweat/aches combo prevented me from sleeping for three nights.

We’re still recovering, feeling weak with some pretty gnarly coughs. Good luck, zz.

had it during thanksgiving and it morphed into a sinus infection that I am only just now getting over.

I’m recovering after coming down with it on the last day of work (23rd). Hideous, hideous sweats and chills. Was too cold to sleep naked, and after one night the entire garment I wore was clammy to the touch, through and through. Could probably have squeezed droplets out of it. Scabs around my philtrum from so much nose-blowing. Worst Christmas I can remember. Can’t face any NYE socialising, so mouldering at home.

On the plus side, I’ve dropped a belt notch in the last seven days and plan to use this as a springboard to getting into something resembling shape in the New Year. Lemons to lemonade. Will be eating better and taking up something like Tai Chi or whatever.

Have a head cold, hoping it doesn’t turn in to more - although I expect it to. Was able to exercise this morning and tonight we’re off to hibachi and sake.

What I SHOULD do is take a little ganja and watch tv. What I’m GOING to do is get drunk and eat a pound of fried rice.

Will follow up itt tomorrow afternoon after I’ve successfully weakened my immune system.

Well at least you’re willfully walking into Hell.

I’m staving something off atm. Congested and feel clammy, not too bad tho. Not drinking much and getting good sleep has allowed me to feel this way a couple of times this winter and then shake it off after a day or two. Last year I was down for the count and eventually hospitalized from not living right during the same stretch.

Didn’t have the flu but a real bad cold that ruined my Christmas. Everyone at work is/was sick too cuz Capitalism.

Flu shot is effective and it’s not too late to get one.

No flu, just a cold that turned into bronchitis and now I sound like I smoked 2 packs a day for 30 years

The cough seems like it will never go away :mask:

Had it bad the last three years. Two years ago ended up with pneumonia and was nearly hospitalized. Last year took Tamiflu within a few hours of first symptoms and still got pretty sick but nothing like the previous two years. I get the flu shot every year.

Conclusion: none. Good luck everybody.

I ignored the flu vaccine until about 10 years ago cause I figured everyone got the flu and how bad could it be - until I got it - felt like total ass for a week, had muscle aches like someone beat me with a 2x4, miserable sore throat, etc. etc. First idiot in line every year now, and haven’t caught it again despite every snotty coughing 2 year old in the department hacking in my face for the last 3 months. I recommend the shot.

About 8 years ago I was at a board review conference and the 1918 flu pandemic came up. Our expert didn’t paint a pretty picture - that episode pounded young people and mostly left old ones alone, gave patients some sort of hideous inflammatory pneumonia that killed off 10% of patients within 48 hours and was essentially untreatable to antibiotics - and that we’d run out of ventilators and antivirals within a week or so. His main recommendation was where to determine to store the stacks of bodies until it blew over. So we have that going for it.

So far so good this season. I tend to get high fevers mid 104s not uncommon, so I’ve learned to rotate advil and tylenol to keep that under control.

104…yikes

I’ve never had a flu shot. I should probably get them. I don’t think I’ve had the flu though for like 18 years.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of treating fevers generally, although if you’re unlucky to have a kid that tends to get febrile seizures ( some do, harmless but scary) I understand a parents wanting to do SOMETHING. I’d be freaking out, and I know better.

When I get tired of fever dreams I use a double shot of NyQuil. Don’t know if it does anything to break the fever other than helping me sleep. My brother is a pathologist but doesn’t know about my recommended course of action, those are my bonafides…

I will never believe this. You can’t make me. All you suckers can keep taking one Lemsip Max Strength, I’ll keep living on the edge with my double-dosing ways.

I do a version of that at work.

We never really dosed a fever till last week when the child was 39.5 C, did nothing but sit on one of our laps hardly moving for an hour, and I was already thinking it was 100% meningitis. A trip to casualty and the first ever dose of Ibuprofen later and he was running around the hospital play area, and I was then worried about the over burdened NHS.

(We tried paracetamol at home, not total amateurs)
