Wherever you go, there you are!
As part of the local Arts festival there is an installation down the docks where you could wander round the warehouses and there weird structures, sounds and lights. Was very enjoyable, but sadly none of photo’s or videos really captured it in a satisfactory way. This was the first exhibit
I have to say I did not have huge expectations for Alaska. I love the outdoors but I just didn’t expect it to be what it is, which is wall to wall natural beauty:
DOX ALERT
Is that last photo at Matenuska glacier?
Yup? You been?
Yeah. Love that place. The ride up from Anchorage blew me away. I was like, oh this is a little boring highway, NO around every bend was another amazing view. Did you make it up to Talketena?
Not into the town but drove past on the highway. Just getting back to Anchorage from Denali for a couple days today. That place was empty right now bc no train service or in park services for another week or two which made the hiking amazing. We were supposed to do a flight around Denali NP from Talkeetna with a glacier landing today but the weather sucked and the flight company canceled it. Pretty big bummer. Tomorrow is our last day and it also sucks tomorrow so can’t reschedule it "/.
The glacier was awesome. My wife and I have a friend here and I guess locals can go for $25 and take two people for $30 each which is insane bc normal rate is $100. I would still do it for full price for sure though. They don’t allow self guided this time of year and I’m not sure that would be a good idea anyways. You are right that the drive is insane.
Oh damn, the Denali flight is awesome if the weather is good, which it rarely is. We lucked out when I was there in January, caught it crystal clear. If you ever go back, Talketena Air Taxi is the way to see it.
That’s who we had booked. They were super cool about it tbh. I called them yesterday and told them the weather looked shit now what. They just advised waiting until the last second to cancel for full refund just in case. Well the weather was awful. Next time I guess.
On the bright side now I have $900 burning a hole in my pocket to spend on high end seafood i guess.
Catching it right in January really does seem like lucking out haha.
I took these photos from a little prairie that’s off the side of the road on the way up to Matenuska:
Wow winter there looks sick.
Our pilot was one of the coolest people I’ve met. She was a serious mountaineer then had a kid and decided to quit so she could raise her. Her name is Leighan Falley, check her out on Instagram. She flies up and lands in the Alaska Range all the time and posts some pretty cool photos.
Yeah, I was blown away, once I got used to the cold. The sunsets last forever and the skies are like something out of a Dr Seuss book
Looks wonderful there.
Never figured you as a long hair type. Aren’t you a lawbro? Is that look ok these days in legal circles?
I only practice in federal court. It’s all been via phone since March 2020. This is the longest my hair has ever been. Haven’t cut it in over a year. I will probably have to shape up soon lol. Or maybe not I have enjoyed it tbh. Will provably just pony tail it up and trim the beard up some.
You do bk right? Seems like an idea field to go long hair lawyer tbh. Criminal attorneys have it tougher, but really all of the charades over professional appearances are kind of silly. I went long hair for the last year before cutting it a few weeks ago, and have also ditched my messenger bag/briefcase for my much more comfortable backpack.
To be perfectly honest I’m pretty sure I could get away with just about anything. The bankruptcy bar here is sloppily dressed and there is one lawyer in particular that shows up in extremely wrinkled khakis and a windbreaker over a polo shirt sometimes. No one says anything. I always wonder what their clients think. Hey look all the other attorneys are wearing suits and mine is wearing basically the equivalent of this:
