Post a photo of where you are

I’m set up in the middle of a partially frozen Matenuska River waiting to shoot the aurora. This Florida boy is cold and terrified that this ice will break.

Sorry for graininess. It wasn’t smoky or hazy as it may appear, but the light was all wrong for photo taking. I didn’t want to approach closer. The koala was in the middle of a path I hike on frequently. This is very unusual behaviour, koalas typically stay in their homes of tall eucalypts until nightfall and only tend to venture to the ground for water or to find a mate. There were no large trees in the vicinity and I have never in my life seen a koala on open ground at dusk like this before. I wondered if it was hurt, but it regarded me for a minute or two then ambled off to a small nearby tree. When I returned the same way a half hour or so later, it had disappeared.

I got to witness alpen glow yesterday evening. It was one of the cooler things I’ve ever witnessed. We were in a prairie north of Anchorage to photograph snow-covered trees, but the conditions kept getting better and better and just after the sun dropped behind the mountains, the glow fired up. It was surreal, like walking around in a painting. Here are a couple iPhone shots, I should have a couple real nice ones on my camera. Only downside was that it was -20 in the little valley we were in. I’ve never experienced temps that cold and we were out in it for a few hours. It hurt, but hopefully I was able to get a few keeper shots.

Rented a cabin near the Smokey mountains in Tennessee. First couple of pics are from our first hike yesterday, second hike from today are the next couple and the last couple are from our place. Snow is coming in a day and a half from one so we might get some skiing or snowboarding in

Pics didn’t load. Or at least I can’t see them.

Me either

Not exaggerating, but these are some of the most other worldly sublime photographs I’ve ever seen, just stunning.

I just got back from the top of the smaller hill. Would have been a better picture from up there.

I don’t know how much odor there is from cooking meth, but the idea that you draw less attention from the cops in a beat up older RV, no matter how isolated, than in a house or apartment is silly.

So you’re really gonna live in that thing voluntarily?

I will tonight. Tomorrow I rejoin the housed.

My dad had a van he slept in when camping. He turned the passenger seat backwards to serve as a recliner and removed everything in the back where he put down a mattress. Driving it was whatever but the dynamics of the interior were suitable for a traveling peep show.

I had to borrow it for my 25 mile commute for a week or so. When the guy who put in a word for me also needed a ride home, I was trying to explain a picture with a thousand words when he saw the situation.

Straight up looked like it was my dad’s hooker-killin’ ride.
