The president of the United States is calling for “MAGA people” to assemble outside the White House tonight. He is clearly hoping/agitating for a violent confrontation.

I would use this statement against them and turn it around to say Infact those might be the reasons we lost the last time because some people don’t want to run the course.
Explaining that this is no easy fight but Infact the hardest fight of anyone’s life.
I dunno. Horrible handling of the pandemic, 40 million unemployment because of that, and mass protests and riots that he is handling just as badly. Only people I’ve seen hating on the riots so far on social media at least has been hardened deplorables. I think most people are sick of this shit and want change and the polls all show that.
I don’t think these protests are going to help him. 2020 has been the biggest clusterfuck of a year in my lifetime and its had Trump as its leader making huge mistakes at every turn. Who besides insane racists would want more of that? I think most people who are on the fence are thinking now more than ever we need some return to normalcy. Like people who weren’t sure of Trump before aren’t looking at everything happening and thinking wow, these people are really out of line, 4 more years of Trump will fix that. They’re thinking ok my tax cuts were nice but this dude is really going to destroy this country.
I mean maybe if Trump were crushing it in response to the riots/protests we’d have something to worry about but I think even moderate republicans are disgusted by his behavior. Thats only red meat for his base.

This isn’t a fully formed thought so please read it as such and avoid the desire to respond assuming the worst possible reading.
I am not super comfortable with the desire to argue that all the destruction and “bad behaviour” among the protestors is either undercover cops or white supremacists. I have no doubt this happens. I worry though that it strips the movement of its earned anger. It makes it easy for those who don’t want change to think the anger is fake. I have no idea what the real percentages are but I’d guess the vast majority of public damage has been caused by actual protestors, and rightfully so. This is about real anger. Earned anger. Let’s not downplay that by trying to find other villains.

There’s a lot less white people as a % of the electorate as the 60s but yeah, we really don’t know what polls are gonna be from this. or at least I don’t. Might be different in states too idk.

I think people tolerate for a bit then if it goes too long there’s backlash or whoever seen as more violent, this is all still TBD. RW spin hasn’t happened yet either and somehow they won on flynn despite jfc at the shit he did.
Trump wants riots though, so I’m of the don’t do what he wants theory of life.
These could help Trump if he can convince people that he brings law and order. One way to work against that is to convince people that Trump is a source of disorder, that he brings the chaos and amplifies it. I don’t really believe that—I’d laugh at the idea that this wouldn’t happen if Hillary was president—but whatever floats their boat. I don’t need them to vote for the right reasons. Anytime Trump opens his mouth, the reaction on the ground needs to be something that can be spun as Trump isn’t helping. Ideally, there would be actions and not just words that can be portrayed as a disaster.
How many people did they arrest?
Also Nixon was a scumbag but he knew how to lead. Trump is just making these protests worse. Not even deplorables are looking at this and thinking Trump is making this better. They just want it to get worse so minorities get killed.

Damn I had this thought a few mins ago and come here to see ponied, I think it makes a lot of sense, hard to make an ad about how he needs to re elected to stop the riots when he’s already in power and not stopping them.

I haven’t a clue how this will all play out, but Trump’s main slogan is and always has been MAGA, so the contradiction about already being President but demanding change is part of whatever appeal he has had for years.
