My thoughts too. I am not necessarily against paying cops more or even having more but things would have to change to an insane degree. Job protection would have to be the first to go.
Police should be able to be fired after a first offense. Problem is unions protect their members no matter how awful they are. Been to rehab 8 times and still / using drinking? Go arrest someone.
What would need to happen to get me there is not going to happen, so I am in favor of less money for less police and money for other professionals to help communities.
We need a massive boost in mental health workers and facilities. This is probably the biggest area of focus we need.
Take mental health related issues away from the police and the prisons and both lose a huge chunk of their work load.
I think 47 states recognize it as a holiday now.
Not sure what the three states who don’t honor it are, but I am guessing one is Arizona. The others are harder as the typical racist shitholes have a more divided history on racism.

Police Unions are a massive hinderance to getting even small changes made let alone system wide changes.
He does not defend cops. He has a massive number of issues with police, policing and police unions.

He was a cop reporter who made friends with cops for stories and sticks up for cops. He defended the “rough ride” the cops gave Freddie Gray. He thinks the problem is that the Good Cops aren’t given the right resources.
