What would a sincere name change coming from a place of becoming better educated and understanding of how the world works look like that would not be PR bullshit?
They disappeared because the media stopped covering them because they realized they can still cut off the oxygen that way, thus restoring some form of order.

It would not feign ignorance or put off responsibility for the original decision. Maybe something like:
“We originally chose the name after a photo shoot in front of an Antebellum-style home. Due to our privilege and ignorance, we didn’t spend enough time considering that the Antebellum era also represents the era of slavery. To us it meant beautiful mansions, and we disregarded the slavery that built them. For that we apologize, and we promise to strive to do better.”
That’s a first draft, I’d probably polish it up and specifically apologize to people of color, too. Also not renaming themselves Lady A like we don’t all know what the A stands for.
Weird to me. Just don’t go there. How do you “end up” at Starbucks? Take some responsibility for your actions. I don’t think hassling the staff will make much of a difference in corporate policy, and they get your money the same whether you give them Black Lives Matter or Merry MAGA Christmas as your name.

Blame corporate capitalism writ large I guess. That was some bean counter’s (pun!) attempt to not offend anyone and maximise profits. They could have decided to make everyone wear a BLM shirt and it wouldn’t have meant anything other than that’s what they thought would move more coffee.

Highly-popular country music group with crossover appeal. Their biggest hit is “Need You Now”, which made it to #2 on the Billboard chart. They are changing their name from Lady Antebellum to Lady A. Basically, they are saying they picked the name because it sounded cool and did not take into account the association with slavery. Some (white) people are predictably upset by this.
I think they could have gotten away with not doing this. I was not aware of people protesting their names. This doesn’t feel like an effort to save their careers. I don’t think it wins them new fans. It seems more likely to cost them fans.

I think the cop on his 3rd day on the job who repeatedly attempted to tell the key officer that Floyd was in trouble has a good chance of copping a plea and turns states evidence - he MIGHT be able to make a deal, maybe. The other 3 are screwed, and appropriately so.
