this dude has been on a serious spiral downward since he joined CNN and started to lie for the establishment. the guardians in red will surely have none of the problems of the boys in blue. what a fuckin idiot
One thing I will say about the military is it saved my cousin from an almost certain life behind bars. We are almost identical in age but he was always in so much trouble as a yute, there was little hope for him. He ended up joining the army and served for 20 plus years and retired a couple of years ago. Absolutely was the best thing he could have done.
Although things got dicey after he retired and he was going back as a consultant to Afghanistan for the very large sums of money. However it put him in much more dangerous situations than he was ever in as active service.
The private military ops is a whole another can of worms, where we are often paying 5x, 10x, 20x the money for contractors to do identical work to soldiers.
You can fix the police. Like someone said earlier, make them scared to act with impunity. No way George Floyd is dead if those 4 cops know they losing their jobs, pension, healthcare, and liable to get sued. Have a national database so if you get fired you can’t get a job elsewhere as a cop. Get rid of police unions. Make cops live where they work. Don’t pay them more than what the teachers in their town make. Since they love to talk so much about how they put their lives on the line, properly train them. Instead of 6 weeks at the academy, make it a 2 year program. There’s tons of stuff you can do to fix the police.
Man, as an out-of-touch middle-aged white dude, the power of K-Pop groups and their associated stans has taken me completely by surprise. BTS seems very much like a modern-day version of Beatlemania and I’m glad that they’re on our side.
Within the first 24 hours the collection had passed $817,000, One In An Army - the fan collective that spearheaded the donation drive - said in a press release.
“We stand in solidarity with black ARMY. They’re an important part of our family. And we stand with black people everywhere. Your voices deserve to be heard.”
BTS’s social media following is known for its devotion and activism and had already organised online protests in support of Black Lives Matter.
Last week, K-pop fans took over the hashtag #whitelivesmatter, posting en masse to drown out white-supremacist or racist posts using the hashtag.
I’m not saying pay them a pitiful wage. I’m saying pay them the same as teachers. If the education budget is a $1 million, so is the police budget.
Have we tried any of the reform I suggested? Cops act the way they do because they are not held accountable and they know it. Even if they get put on trial, 99% of the time it’s a not guilty verdict.
I’d consider Camden a huge success, and I support their model, however there is some concern that reporting/stats are down more than actually crime is down - everyone seems to agree it’s still down, though. Also, I forget what it was, but I think one specific type of crime is up - possibly drug dealing. Which, whatever I guess. I’m not too worried about that and the model is a success.
One of the most important things they do is slow down interactions and give themselves time to de-escalate. They aren’t trained to perceive a guy with a knife 15 feet away as a lethal threat to themselves or others. They let the situation play out, keep backpedaling as long as they can, providing space, and trying to take people down with as little force necessary - or better yet, get people to just surrender once they calm down and realize there is no way out.
