There is some amazing stuff happening in Minneapolis right now
There’s no organization to name that’s running it. There’s no manager to talk to. But still, people get checked into their rooms, sheets get washed, meals get served and high touch areas get sanitized — a sign of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
“People are organizing themselves. We take care of each other,” said Rosemary Fister, one of the community members who helped commandeer the hotel.
“We let the owners know that we would be staying,” Fister said. “They’ve been very gracious as we let them know what we’re going to do and (they) have been training people how to operate the facilities.”
The owners could not immediately be reached for comment, but have relinquished management of the property while they continue to be helpful to the effort, according to Fister.

Black Lives Matter seems to have made some progress with the Republican Mayor in OKC:
"Hello All! I am Nicole Poindexter, I am the BLM Liaison. I wanted to take an opportunity to first introduce myself but also to give an update on what occurred yesterday.
Yesterday, Oklahoma City’s Mayor David Holt met with Black Lives Matter and had an incredibly productive meeting with the Mayor and his staff.
Black Lives Matter arrived with three demands
- All charges be dropped against peaceful protestors, with no fines.
-That a new independant review board would be created to review police brutality claims. - Police implement a new de-escalation strategy and training.
I am pleased to announce the Mayor agreed to the last two!! He unfortunately can not force the charges dropped so we were unable to fully accomplish that goal.
In addition to the demands, the Mayor said he would go down and greet protestors and listen to their grievances. If all went well, he would lift the curfew. The Mayor kept his promises and at 9:30 he arrived at the Protest. I was there to greet him and I was pleased to see that he arrived with just one aid and zero police. He met with Sheri Dickerson who is the head of BLM OKC and took the megaphone to announce his intentions and the lifting of the curfew. The night was peaceful and I have seen no reports of vandalism or looting.
These events were a huge victory for our cause and I hope to see continued progress.
