It’s what you get in this forum. It’s boring af honestly.
I get that you can’t discriminate based on race, religion etc. But what about political affiliation? Trump is so quick to point out Democrat controlled cities and he threatens to withhold funding from them. So if cities and states under Democratic control are forced to lay off cops due to revenue shortfalls, can they base those decisions on the cops’ political party of choice?
well except for Louisiana, we’d have gotten around to the ending slaves thing eventually when it wouldn’t have been profitable.
If these cops were so outraged by the current state of policing, they’d at minimum resign. Instead, they hang around and do nothing to change the racist culture of policework in America.
Pretty clear in DC that they are basically circling what is left of the protesters slowing squeezing them in and whoever doesn’t slip out before they are completely surrounded will eventually get arrested.
There are good cops that risk their lives and save people. That is a fact. Our desperate need for systemic change does not change that.
The centrist demons at NPR ran a story today that featured a commanding officer that became a cop because he was a victim of police brutality. He gave up his dream of computer programming to do so.
Are any of us willing to make that sacrifice?
I have raised this with many people that are like smart, moderately engaged people. Run of the mill professionals that keep up with current affairs generally and would consider themselves well informed. They are universally shocked that I could even suggest that Trump will abuse his power to cancel the election. There’s a real strong “that can’t happen here” vibe. Its scary.
didn’t know anyone else here was down with the DC Talk
If you’re so outraged, give up your cushy teaching gig abroad and go volunteer.

Pullin’ out my big black book
Cause when I need a word defined that’s where I look
So I move to the L’s quick, fast, in a hurry
Threw on my specs, thought my vision was blurry
I looked again but to my dismay
It was black and white with no room for grey
Ya see, a big “V” stood beyond my word
And yo that’s when it hit me, that luv is a verb
Damn I was just singing this album nonstop the other day. They had just announced their first reunion tour in twenty years when COVID happened.
legally he can’t (lol)–it’s the states that decide. Only congress can change the date.
(that wouldn’t stop a state from doing whatever the hell it wants but any dem state the election is getting held tough shit (unless he invades them anyway)).
I love rap music, I always have and I always will.
And dc Talk was the only rap music I was allowed to listen to as a kid.
Are there good Muslims too? Seems the right is pretty comfortable painting all members of a group based on the behavior of a few members, we’re just playing their game.
That’s weird, I had some of their songs randomly stuck in my head the other day, too.
Since when is risking one’s life worthy of respect? People do that as a part of their job. Whether it’s being a roofer, electrician, logger or fisherman, people put their lives on the line regularly.
A police officer’s job is less dangerous than advertised. It’s the 18th most dangerous profession in America according to the BLS. Trashmen and groundskeepers have more dangerous jobs than cops yet they aren’t respected for it. Cops in America spend more time doing paperwork, radar and DUI checks than risking their lives.
My dad was a cop for 15 years and as far as I know never discharged his weapon. He was probably one of the good ones. However, I can’t know that for sure since he retired when I was just a child and is no longer alive.
If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
