Garrett’s attitude didn’t change until she flipped her hand. I’ve watched Garrett lose a lot of 6 figure pots over the years, they don’t go down like this.
I have only played a fraction of the live poker Garrett has, but a majority of it has been at live 1/2. I can think back to a handful of sessions where someone so clueless sits down that you wonder what is even happening. Most people realize pretty quickly you don’t try to bluff them, you can just value bet the ever loving shit out of them because they are clueless.
I’ve definitely seen the “I think you’re bluffing but I don’t know what I’m doing so I call with this hand that can’t beat bluffs” move before. I know of a couple hands in my database where I got called on the river by the nut low. GMan has been playing nosebleeds so long and I can imagine these types of whales are so rare that he doesn’t think they exist, or doesn’t believe there’s any way Robbi could be one.
I do agree though there’s a lot of ways this could be cheating. And maybe I’m being too generous by projecting the thought of “If I was capable of cheating at poker, I wouldn’t do it this way.” But I’ve also seen enough dumb stuff happen at a poker table that it certainly wouldn’t be my default assumption. Either way it sounds like this is likely the end of Garrett’s time as a televised high stakes player.

this is super interesting. if you asked me yesterday i’d imagine garrett isn’t dumb enough to set his goldmine on fire, but after reading his statement it’s clear i overestimated his rational. no way he can comeback to HCL if he doesn’t repay her.
I believe Garrett believes he was cheated, even though the evidence is pretty slim right now. He’ll cling to anything that reinforces that in his mind. The most likely explanation here is you have a rich whale with “fuck you” money that didn’t understand the situation at all, made a call based on “I have 3 to a straight flush and I think you’re bluffing” and then got further brow beat into giving back money she legitimately won.
With Postle we had months of evidence of very questionable plays and it was clear he was crushing the game. Whales make bad hopeless calls all the time, it’s just usually the player in Garrett’s shoes has the full house and happily takes their winnings.

Thanks. I still don’t get then why she would agree to give away money that wasn’t hers (or at least was mostly her backers money as I guess she’d have cut of the winnings). Also makes sense why Rip was so mad.
because garrett is scary and the producers took her out of the game to have a talk with her where she had to explain her actions that were obviously unexplainable other than admitting ‘im dumb and panicked’.
that’s why i don’t get what’s suspicious about rip’s action.
i mean there’s a very clear explanation to everything that happened, none of which involves her cheating.

She is a woman who has been bullied in the game. After she makes the play the other players talk constantly for 20 minutes about how insane it was. Gareth berates her. Then Gareth corners her one and one and yells at her.
Her giving the money back makes perfect sense. Women are forced to diffuse these kinds of situations for fear of further social and real violence.
